You’re planning to go on a date tonight, and the moment you look out of the window, you see the car windshield is all messed up! You start to panic and think of canceling the date. After all, who would want to drive a messed up car, right?

Well, hold on for a second!

You don’t have to stress over it. Windshield replacement is an easy process, and it can be done in just a matter of minutes. All you have to do is get all the pieces of equipment and follow this procedure.

5 Steps For Car Windshield Replacement

Step 1: Gather all the equipment

Before you begin the process, you need to have all the required equipment to avoid any complications. Here’s what an ideal set will look like:

  • New Windshield Set
  • Gasket
  • Primer
  • Knife
  • Nylon Brush
  • Utility tools like plier & screwdriver
  • Window Holders
  • Glass cleaner

Step 2: Remove Old Windshield

Before you start removing the old windshield, analyze all the equipment’s position along with their angles. If possible, note it down somewhere just to keep track.

Then, start with removing plastic molding from the areas surrounding the windshield. Be careful and proceed slowly. As you would have already analyzed the equipment’s position, separating pinch-weld from the windshield won’t be a difficult task.

Use a knife to cut away the windshield from the plastic-weld.

Step 3: Go For The Pinch-Weld

Get rid of urethane steadily. You can do it either from outside or inside. But doing it from inside will give you extra space to position yourself and remove it steadily. Also, protecting other components is vital.

After you’re done with urethane and pinch-weld, you’re ready to get rid of the old windshield. Get the help of a person and slowly push the windshield outside. Avoid extra jerk and lift it perpendicular to the car.

Voila, you’re done!

Step 4: Install The New Car Windshield

Before installing the new windshield, make sure the primer is applied correctly to the installation surface. It will open up the molecules for urethane.

Then apply urethane and keep the surface ready. Now, steadily align the windshield to the applied urethane area and place it. Be careful not to jerk the windshield after it has touched the urethane molecules.

Leave the car for 24 hours to dry off all the urethane molecules and let the windshield settle right!

Step 5: Change The Gasket

Next is the gasket. But again, you need to be careful with the process as you might end up damaging the newly installed windshield!

Pull out the gasket carefully by using a specialized tool. You can visit the car website or go to the local shop and get it quickly. Use this tool for pulling out the gasket.

Do not worry about any leftover gaskets attached to the windshield. You can easily remove them with a knife.

Place the new gasket in the right place and slowly adjust the alignment and length. Make sure your hands do not get in contact with the windshield. As they might scratch or even damage them.

And lastly, tighten all the clips supporting the windshield and the gasket, and you’re all set to go!!

But if all these steps seem too complicated for you, you can also go for an auto body repair in Holland, PA, and have expert professionals deal with it.

After all, certified professionals are always the best at what they do!
