People have varied needs, interests, and desires when selecting the best off-road vehicles. Since there isn't a single, effective answer, an off-road SUV may be effective for one person but not another.

Off-road-ready vehicle purchasers, however, also have a wide range of extra options to further personalize a vehicle to their interests by adding parts and equipment from the manufacturer or aftermarket vendors. The ten most capable SUVs are listed below.

1. 2022 Nissan Armada

The large, luxurious, body-on-frame Armada SUV is essentially an international rebadged Nissan Patrol sans the Patrol's compartments. Off-trail, the Armada's large 5.6-liter V-8 engine's 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque and ability to tow up to 8,500 pounds are advantages. The Armada is a solid off-road alternative if you need to transport many passengers and a lot of gear.

2. 2022 Lexus GX

The Lexus GX 460 is a trail-ready three-row SUV that gets its name from its 4.6-liter V8 engine. Thanks to the high-quality materials chosen for its interior, the GX 460 is elegant and luxurious. The 2022 GX has some new features, including an updated infotainment system that is noticeably better than the 2021 model.

3. 2022 Land Rover Range Rover

The most recent iteration of the legendary Ranger Rover is designed to impress. The Range Rover is a beauty, and everyone knows it. Its powerful engine and sophisticated driving characteristics make the interior completely comfortable. Range Rovers have long been the benchmark for what a luxury SUV ought to be, bringing a special blend of powerful all-terrain capabilities and classic British luxury.

4. 2022 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro

The Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro trim is a great SUV. If you require an off-road car, it's excellent, but it doesn't compromise on the on-road driving experience. It includes a front skidplate, a cat-back exhaust, Fox shocks, and an additional 0.7 inches of suspension travel for off-road use. Toyota's Sequoia full-size SUV has undergone a complete redesign for 2022 after years of being relegated to the end of the field.

5. 2021 Jeep Wrangler

Off-roading is essentially synonymous with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. It is perhaps the "most American" car currently on the road and is the modern offspring of the original World War II military vehicle. With the choice of a soft or hard top, it comes in two- and four-door variants. For the ultimate open-air experience, the roof, doors, and windshield may all be removed.

6. 2022 Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco, Ford's rival to the Jeep Wrangler, was created from the ground up to be a tough and capable off-road vehicle. The Bronco has various standard and optional off-road features. These include a two-speed electronic transfer case, electronic front, and rear locking differentials, a hydraulic anti-roll-bar disconnect, and a strenuous, heavy-duty suspension.

7. 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro

The 2021 Toyota 4Runner has been a staple of the brand's portfolio for many years. The car's rugged external appearance conveys its ruggedness, which makes it a great off-road vehicle. The TRD Pro trim of the 4Runner is the most trail-ready. Its ground clearance is 9.6 inches, as the rest of the series, and skid plates are standard. It also sits tall. The TRD Pro includes all-weather floor mats, low-speed crawl control, and four-wheel drive.

8. 2021 Land Rover Defender

For the 2020 model year, the venerable Land Rover Defender made its long-awaited comeback to the United States. Even though it has been upgraded with contemporary underpinnings and components, it nonetheless maintains the boxy, functional design of its past.

The Defender has an exceptionally high ground clearance and is a better off-road vehicle. A two-speed transfer case, a terrain response system, hill descent control, wade detection, and an off-road front-view camera are just a few of the trail-ready features.

9. 2021 Toyota Landcruiser

Although the interior of the 2021 Land Cruiser is all about luxury, it is incredibly capable off-road. Standard equipment includes all-terrain tires, tow hooks, skid plates, a two-speed four-wheel-drive transfer case with low-range gearing, and a locking center differential. The Toyota Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System and Crawl Control, which functions like a low-speed cruise control system for off-road driving, are also available.

10. 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-class

Among premium SUVs, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class ranks among the best off-road performers. Similar to the Jeep Wrangler, it has military roots. However, this time from post-World War II Germany. The G 550's base V8 engine produces 416 horsepower; if that isn't enough power, the AMG G 63 model comes with a twin-turbo V8 that produces 577 horsepower and a strong 627 pound-feet of torque.
