The vacation state for a reason also an underrated state. I live in Maine and tourism seems to have dropped over the years. Here are the reasons you should visit as well as what you should do during your stay.

Here is a little bit of history about Maine. Maine is the 23rd state to be created in the united states. It’s the most northern state in the country surrounded by Canada, New Hampshire, and the Atlantic ocean. It was originally part of Massachusetts before it became its own state in 1820.

Maine is a beautiful state that has a lot to offer. From the beauty of the ocean to the peacefulness of the woods. Maine is the place to stay when you want to getaway. Nature to say the least is what draws so many to our great state. Camping is a must-do. Go to a campground with a camper, pitch a tent on the ground or stay in a log cabin on one of the many lakes. My favorite camping spot is Emden lake, It’s peaceful, and a lot of cabins to pick from. Stay for a week or a month. We rent a cabin, have BBQ swim, and just spend time with family.

We also have wonderful beaches such as Old Orchard Beach which is my personal favorite as well as Popham, Ogunquit, York, and Sand beach. They seem endless. You can simply just go to one of the 65 lighthouses that Maine has to offer. From the coasts to the islands surrounding or even the Inlets!

Maine is mostly populated by the Elderly which means it’s quiet most of the year. However, we have a fairly large college in the state called Colby that has people from all over the world that comes visits. It’s located in Waterville, Maine. It’s not much of a city but it’s beautiful in the fall. If you have a kid who’s looking into a college I would check them out to see if it’s the perfect fit. Maine is a good state to attend college even if it’s not at Colby.

If you decide to come to Maine we also have the L.L. Bean outlet. That’s where that great store came from. It’s located in freeport and it’s a large store! It has the famous large boot you can take a photo in just like my friend and I have done. Shopping at small businesses would help owners as well. The coast is the best time in the summer to do that.

The fall brings out the best time to hike. It’s not too hot, it’s not too cold and we have a lot for that. Mount Katahdin is one of the most popular hiking trails. If you’ve never heard of the book, Lost in a Mountain in Maine this is the trail that is based on and one of the reasons it is still popular today. Cadillac Mountain is also another place where you can hike! It overlooks the ocean and is located at Acadia National park. Which is the national park of Maine! It’s great for hiking, sightseeing and of course swimming. It’s peaceful.

Maine isn’t just great to visit in the summer, we have a lot of places in the winter! We have sugarloaf a ski resort and the most popular attraction in the state of Maine. We’ve got a lot of people who come to main just to ski and snowboard at sugarloaf. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing on trails are a must as well. You can do these in the mountains or even on flatlands. You might get lucky and see a black bear or a moose which are native to Maine.

These are just some basics about Maine and the beauty it holds. What it has to offer. Though I didn’t share all, I just did what I know is a big hit when people come to Maine for a visit. Check it out yourselves and you can look it up as well to see what you would like to do when you visit.
