Why Napa Valley Isn’t Just for Wine Lovers

Wine Country

A popular destination for wine lovers everywhere is Napa, CA. There are about 400 wineries total in this wine region, complete with wine tasting rooms. However, Napa—which is also known as “wine country"—is not just about the wine. Yes, some may think it is, especially after seeing how many wineries there are. Okay, so it’s mainly about the wine, but what if I told you there is so much more to do and see in Napa, and it doesn’t include wine at all?!

Foodies

Foodies rejoice! There are a variety of restaurants to choose from in Napa, it’s almost overwhelming. From Italian, Sushi, and even BBQ, you will never run out of options. Whatever restaurant you choose, your palate will be sure to thank you! Many restaurants may be closed (I learned the hard way) on the days you want to visit Napa, so make sure you use Yelp and do some research before your trip. The two restaurants I recommend are Il Posto Trattoria and Quinto Patio Taqueria; both restaurants have great food and fantastic service.

Shopaholics

I know many people who can literally shop til they drop. I’m not one of those people who can do that; I’m more of a get in the store, find-what-you-need-and-get-out kind of person (to each their own). Anyways! For shopaholics—Napa has gift and specialty shops, outlet malls, and boutique shops spread throughout the region. Downtown St. Helena (located in the Napa Valley), without a doubt, is a favorite shopping area; you will be able to find whatever your shopaholic heart desires. Tip: Make sure you plan accordingly if you decide to visit downtown St. Helena for a fun-filled shopping day, as it can become severely congested with traffic.

Nature Enthusiasts

Let’s face it, California in general has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the United States. Next to the California coast line, Napa Valley should be at the top of your list of places to visit if you absolutely love nature. The landscapes here are a photographer’s dream. From any angle you stand at, you get a glimpse of the natural beauty that is Napa Valley. There are many scenic drives you can take as well to take in the scenery. Tip: Take Highway 29, 12, or 128 to see some unforgettable views. If you love to immerse yourself in nature, take a hike, or bike in the parks, trails, or open spaces.

Adventurist

I’m very much an adventurist and adrenaline junkie (not very many people are); most people just like to sit and be a spectator while others have all the fun—and that’s okay too. For the ones who like to thrill-seek like me, ballooning and glider riding are two thrill-seeking options you can choose in Napa Valley. Both wisp you up in the air where you can get a glimpse of the breathtaking views. If you’re a thrill-seeker, but not keen on heights, there are options like kayaking, canoeing, or even paintball.

Wine is something I do enjoy, and if you visit Napa Valley, you should visit some of the wineries and take in a tasting or two, or five! However, as you can see, Napa offers more than just drinking wine. When I travel, I love to do a variety of different things that are offered. So, when you plan your next trip to Napa Valley, make sure you add some of these things to your list.
