Once you arrive in Sri Lanka if what you want is the sun, the beach and a good relax, the easiest place to get to would be Negombo as it is quite close to the airport. The weather is great in Negombo no matter what time of year you plan to visit, so you'll be able to enjoy the destination whenever. Here are a few tips on how to prepare for a trip to Negombo.

Best time to visit

While it's true that the weather in Negombo is great whenever you might choose to come to Sri Lanka, the fact that the weather on this tropical island is so unpredictable is also weighing in the balance. Therefore, in order to really and truly enjoy a trip to Negombo, make sure you don't visit when the monsoons are about to hit which is during the months between May and August. Instead, try visiting between the months of December and April when the monsoons are off somewhere else.

Choose the right hotel

Travelling with family? Solo? With that special someone? Or are you on a trip with friends? Well, either way, booking a Wattala hotel is an important part of your preparation. This means that the way to choose the best hotel for your travel would be to consider your budget and do a bit of research. If you are travelling via an agent this shouldn't be a big issue. But if you are making your own travel plans, look through reviews for hotels. Resorts likes Pegasus Reef have special offers at different times of the year and this means that you will be able to save quite a bit if you book just at the right time.

Things to do in Negombo

Wondering about what activities you might be able to indulge in during your time in Negombo. Well, that's easy. This beach destination is mostly for those who simply love to laze around on the beach and soak in some rays or those who want to conquer the seas with their skills in water sports. Enquire with your local hotel about the best spots for water sports, some hotels may even provide you with the gear you need. Jet ski through the waters leaving a trail of white froth behind or go for an even greater thrill and try your skill at kitesurfing! Other than the beach, Lellama, Angurukaramulla Temple and St.Mary's Church are popular places that often catch the interest of tourists.

When it comes to getting about in Negombo, or anywhere on the island for that matter, public transport is available, and the friendly locals are sure to help you out. An authentic way to travel would definitely be the tuk-tuk. But make sure the vehicle either has a sticker saying its tourist-friendly or make it a point to see that the meter is on while you travel to your destination. Make absolutely sure that you do not get into a tuk-tuk without a meter and risk getting swindled. You could also hail a taxi with apps like Uber and Pickme available.

Pack well

When it comes to clothes to wear in Sri Lanka, considering that there is hot weather to deal with during most of the year, light clothing is the best option. Light coloured t-shirts, shorts and sundresses would be ideal. Throw in a pair of flip flops as well. One good thing in Sri Lanka is that there is no "no bikini on the beach" policy here. So, go ahead and pack that new swimwear right in. A pair of sunglasses would be great as well, the sun can be quite hot and bright after all. Definitely pack in some sunscreen to protect your skin from the intense heat of the tropical weather here.
