Traveling can be fun, but it can also take a toll on your body. The shifted schedules, rushing around and exposure to germs can leave you feeling rundown and exhausted. Unfortunately, this is often just part of the territory when you are traveling. However, there are some things you can do to help combat this. When you are getting ready to travel, considering these tips may help you feel better and keep you in better shape.

Lift Carefully

Lifting things that are too heavy, or lifting them improperly is one of the leading causes of back injuries. This can be prevented by lifting things carefully. First of all, lift everything with your knees, and not your back. This means to squat down to the object you are trying to lift instead of bending over. Your knees will help reduce the amount of strain on your back. Also, try to pack lightly. Stuffing your bag as full as possible and carrying it through the airport or to the trunk of your car can be difficult on your body. Try to pack a bag that weighs no more than 15-20 lbs. Ask for help if you have a back problem or health condition. Take care of your back so you aren't miserable the entire trip.

Get Your Sleep

Dealing with jet lag can be difficult. When you are in a different time zone than you are used to, it can make it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep. Do what you can to make this transition easy. If the difference is only a couple hours, try going to bed thirty minutes early or later than usual, so that you can get on the right schedule. When you are more than a few hours off, you just have to do the best you can. A sleep mask may be helpful if you are sleeping in a room that isn't dark enough. Stick to your bedtime routine as much as you can, so that your mind understands it's time for bed. If you can help it, avoid screen time 30 minutes before bed, as the blue light from screens can make it difficult to sleep.

Eat Healthy

It's tempting to want to indulge in unhealthy foods that taste good during your vacation. When you can, do so in moderation. Don't deny your body of the nutrients it needs to stay functioning at its best. Make sure you are still eating fruits and vegetables, as well as drinking plenty of water. A probiotic, such as Nucific, can help keep your digestion regular, saving you from uncomfortable symptoms such as gas and bloating. Eat small meals, and stick with snacks containing protein when you are feeling hungry between meals. Take small bites and chew thoroughly. This makes it easier on your digestive system, which will keep you and your stomach feeling happy.

Get Some Fresh Air

Get some time outdoors for a little bit everyday. The fresh air is good for your body, and the sunshine can rejuvenate you when you aren't feeling well. Exercise is also an important part of health. Try to take a brisk walk in the evenings, or perhaps a run in the crisp morning air. Staying active can keep you feeling your best. It can also help you mentally, as being cooped up in a car or on a plane for a long time often requires a stretching of legs once you have arrived at your destination.

These are all ways to keep yourself feeling healthy while traveling. Protecting yourself from injury by lifting properly can prevent a back injury. Getting an adequate amount of sleep is important to keep you from being drowsy during the day, as well as keeping your immune system in tiptop shape. A proper diet can improve digestion and ensure you are getting the proper nutrients. Finally, getting some fresh air and exercise daily is good for both the mind and body. Take care of yourself when traveling so you can enjoy yourself as much as possible.
