Trip to Austin, TX While on a Budget

The ups and downs of our adventure and where to go!

Me and my best friend Priscilla decided to go on a super spontaneous trip to Austin, TX even though we were SO broke! We both had roughly $300 each so we knew we'd have to watch what we did. We sort of had it planned out but partially we were winging everything the whole time.

Red Roof Inn North

First stop was our hotel, it's right off of Interstate 35. It was only a few minutes outside of downtown Austin but just far enough that the price per night was affordable. We pull up to check in and the lobby is full of people waiting on one person to help them. Suddenly another woman walks in to help but locks the door behind her because the room was so packed. We get our room number and drive around to park and the second we get out it smells like weed and is super sketchy (definitely looks better in the day). Our room smelled a little stale the moment you stepped inside, the lamp shade was ripped up, our comforter had stains on it so it's obvious they didn't clean them before giving us our room key, the toilet paper was almost out, we actually saw baby roaches, and Priscilla said there we fleas in her "clean" towel... but we got what we paid for. The shower, on the other hand, held hot water for an extremely long time and the TV had really good movie channels (we watched Gnomeo & Juliet!!!).

State Capital

The state capital is a must see! It's fenced around and we visited it at night so there was no way to get close but it was enormous!!

Cathedral of Junk

Since the Botanical Garden didn't work out this was our last spot to go to before leaving Austin. Unfortunately, you have to call ahead of time to make sure the guy will be there to give you a tour. When we called it rang but went to voicemail right after, he said that he would be gone the month of January so there was no way we'd be going. It's free to get a tour but donations are recommended!

Austin, TX was so much fun and we both ended up spending just over $100 each which was perfect. You don't have to have a bunch of money saved up to go on a trip somewhere because not everything is going to be super expensive. There's websites or even Pinterest to help find cheap, affordable places to go and eat in every city that are still so much fun! I'll definitely be going back to some of these places next time I'm in Austin, TX.
