The Atlanta Zoo is being transformed into a nocturnal wonderland by Georgia Power's IllumiNights program. This custom honors the beauty of nature by showcasing lighted wildlife and breathtaking views. The Zoo is turning into a mile-long walk of breathtaking reflection on the planet's animals and imagination by adding additional lanterns and experiences. Enjoy the Winter Season!
A half-mile trail winds through the State Botanical Garden of Georgia as part of the UGA Office of the President's Winter WonderLights light show. The festival is held from November 22 to December 30 and has been chosen "Best Local Event" in Athens for the past two years.
The Return of Rudolph and Unusual Puppets
An accurate recreation of the 1964 stop-motion special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReindeerTM is being presented live on stage by the Centre for Puppetry Arts. The event includes a Festive Features Special Exhibition in addition to rare puppets of Santa and Rudolph from the original Rankin & Bass TV production. The Create-A-Puppet WorkshopTM, museum entrance, and the show are all included in the all-inclusive ticket. In November, some performances are discounted.
Gorgeous Christmas Trees
A forest of Christmas trees up for auction, live music, a gingerbread competition, the Christmas Brick Challenge, children's activities, upscale gift stores, and food carts are all featured at the annual Georgia Festival of Trees. The local NGOs Street Grace and Atlanta Redemption Ink, which fight human trafficking, benefit from all proceeds. The event is closed for Thanksgiving from November 18–26.
Enchantment for Your Next Vacation at The Nutcracker
Set to Tchaikovsky's beloved score, Atlanta Ballet's reinvented version of The Nutcracker carries audiences away to a wintry paradise complete with falling snowflakes, twirling flowers, and spinning stars. The magical world of delights is showcased by live performances by the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. This year, make The Nutcracker a part of your Christmas ritual. It will be performed from December 8–26 at Cobb Energy Centre. Was I a Model in Japan?
During my time in Nagoya I worked and lived at the strangely famous hostel and café Nagonoya. With its chequered floors and florescent lighting it felt quite dated, but I think that was supposed to be part of the charm. The dorms were always fully booked on weekends with domestic tourists and there was always a buzz in the downstairs café. Camera crews were constantly in and out of the place interviewing the Japanese staff members who worked the café. I think it had something to do with the egg sandwiches. At least that was what was on most of the merchandise, except for that one dishcloth with the owner’s face on it. Was I being employed by a local celebrity?
