Tulum really is a place like no other. A coastal town that boasts stunning scenery, jaw-dropping historical architecture and seas as turquoise as they come, it’s hardly surprising that this Mexican town has become a favourite for tourists looking to flock to warmer pastures over the past few years. Added to this, it’s also a place that won’t break the bank, and is every bit child-friendly as it is an adult’s playground. Whatever you want from Tulum, chances are you’ll be appeased. From tranquil vibes to non-stop parties to upmarket accommodation to more laid-back hostels, Tulum truly does have something to appease everyone. A long-time favourite over the Christmas break, Tulum attracts visitors from the US and beyond in their droves, all of whom are enticed by its many mythical vibes. Here, we showcase some of what visitors can expect this January. As ever with Tulum, it’s recommended that you dive in head first to truly experience what this incredible spot has to offer...

Mayan Ruins

Mayans famously had prolific beliefs regarding life cycles, the cosmos and higher powers. The Mayan civilization is viewed as one of the most advanced Western cultures before the arrival of European explorers. The Mayan civilization thrived between 300 and 900 AD and spread throughout over 40 cities. They were also expert bundlers who created iconic structures for grand ceremonies. Many are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and offer plenty of candy for your camera, spine tingling atmospheres and awe inspiring architecture. Chichen Itza is one of the best.

Grand Cenote

Yucatan Peninsula’s Grand Cenote is a breath taking hidden cave that has crystal clear water like you wouldn't believe, as well as 140 square meters for swimming. There are also wooden platforms where you can walk around views to really take you back. There is plenty of nature to take in too with small turtles and cool insects as some of the many wonders you may find.

Cenote Calavera

If you want to get away from the screaming kids at the other Cenotes, this is the one as it is a little challenging as it requires you to dive into what looks like a hole in the rock. You'll find bats flying about in the cove and it offers different perspectives of the water. The cenote offers tranquillity and an experience like no other.

Xel-Ha

This place is a Hidden Wonder nearby Tulum that offers endless chances to snorkel and explore the local underwater wildlife. The inlet flows directly into the Caribbean Sea and is like a natural aquarium teeming with fish and lots of caves waiting to be explored. There is also a nearby course to challenge your balance, agility, coordination, and endurance skills with all sorts of action packed offerings. The crystal clear blue water, the glorious sun and the water course make for an amazing day of activities for all ages!

Party in the Mayan Ruins

Solomon, Maceo Plex, Ame, Dixon and a New Year's Eve line-up to be announced are all scheduled to play a series of special parties deep in the jungle. Hosted by expert party people Project Sound, there will be a specially built new club, Templo Xunanha, just for the occasion and a focus on world class sound and production. If you like your parties to run and run and feature endless hours of quality music, consider this one an essential pit stop. Incidentally, Solomun’s party (where he invites Maceo Plex as his +1) kicks off on the 4th of January, while Dixon and Ame take the reins on the 6th. This one should be incredible. Definitely NOT one to miss.
