In Savannah, Georgia, are you looking for a quick waterfront getaway? Despite being only a short distance from Savannah's historic downtown, Butterbean Beach's breathtaking views will make you feel as though you've left the city behind.

Savannah is renowned across the rest of the globe for its historic appeal, lovely squares and parks, and peach cobbler. But you might be surprised to learn that it also has a tiny beach that you've never heard of.

Tybee Island may be the most well-known beach nearby to Savannah, but this undiscovered waterfront treasure is even more accessible. It's the ideal getaway location because you'll feel a million miles from the city.

A small river beach, boat ramps, floating dock, bait shop, kayak rentals, picnic tables, a pavilion, and breathtaking marsh views are all found in the area known as Butter Bean Beach.

Where is Butterbean Beach?

On the Isle of Hope, Butterbean Beach is only 20 minutes south of Savannah's city centre. To get to the park, take the Harry S. Truman Parkway to the GA-204 Spur. 25 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, Georgia 31406 is the address.

Just before crossing the Skidaway River to reach Skidaway Island, turn into the Rodney J Hall Boat Ramp entry on the right and go along the road to the parking area. (You've gone too far if you cross the bridge.)

What To Do In Butterbean Beach

There are many opportunities to take in natural beauty at this Chatham County park. If you keep a lookout, you might see manatees, dolphins, or otters in addition to a wide variety of birds.

KAYAKING

Take to the water in a kayak or canoe you may rent. Investigate the Moon River, Skidaway Narrows, and nearby inland lakes.

You may take a guided tour with Moon River Kayak Tours along the tidal streams where you might see eagles, osprey, and egrets. A walk on an uninhabited island is another option you have with one of their knowledgeable guides.

SWIMMING

At Butter Bean, there is a swimming area, however, it's not like a conventional public beach. It doesn't have clean water because it is a tidal river beach. Like rivers and marshes typically are, the water can be murky.

Grass dominates the riverside, with a small piece of sand in between. The ideal time to enjoy the sand is during low tide because high tide covers a lot of it. If you wish to lounge on the grass and gaze at the stunning marsh, bring your beach chair.

BOATING

You can launch your boat at the public boat ramp to explore the Intracoastal Waterway if you own one. There are two double boat ramps, and you can park your tow car and boat trailer in the parking area.

The boat ramp is open to the public and is free to use. There are no launch fees, but if you plan to go fishing, a permit is necessary.

Alongside the bridge, there is a handy floating dock and boardwalk that takes you over the lake. The boat ramp is immediately close to the pier, which is also a fantastic location for pictures.

FISHING

In the neighbouring rivers, anglers can catch local fish including flounder, sheepshead, black drum, red fish, sea trout, and even sharks and blue crabs. Bandy's Bait Shop, a full-service bait shop, is another option for live bait and all of your fishing equipment requirements.

Before you begin fishing in Georgia's salt water, don't forget to obtain a licence. Visitors and citizens of the state are subject to separate rules, and both temporary and annual licences are offered. Here, you may find out more information and buy your fishing licence online.

PICNIC

If you wish to take in the shade as well as the scenery, there are several picnic tables and a picnic pavilion. Bring a cooler with your lunch, get takeout on the way, or, during the warmer months, check out the local food trucks.

This location is great for a gathering or outdoor event because the picnic pavilion may be rented and there are public restrooms nearby.

FOOD TRUCKS

Food trucks frequently stop here for lunch and dinner during the workweek. To find out where your favourite truck will be each day, make sure to follow them on social media.

To see what's scheduled, you can also look here at the local food truck calendar. Pie Society, The Bayou Cafe, Mac Attack, and Latin Chicks are just a few of the trucks that have parked at Butterbean.

DISCOVER THIS HIDDEN GEM

Only locals are aware of Butterbean Beach, which is a hidden gem and a terrific family destination. The best times to go are in the spring and fall because the summer months might be a bit busy.

Make your way to breathtaking Butterbean Beach in Savannah, Georgia, if you wish to spend a few hours away from the city and in nature.
