History

Jamaica is located in the Caribbean and was first inhabited by the Arawaks before the arrival of Columbus in 1494. The island was first named “Xaymaca” which means “Land of wood and water.” Although the island was referred to as “Xaymaca”, the name was gradually changed to Jamaica by the Spanish. Jamaica was an English colony from 1655 when it was captured by the English from the Spaniards but it gained its independence in 1962 from the British. Jamaica is considered to be the richest poor nation because of its abundance of fruits and vegetables, animals and its culture.

Jamaica is one of the most famous tourist destination spots in the Caribbean because of its music, beautiful beaches, food and amazing people. In Jamaica there are many tourist attractions that are guaranteed to leave you satisfied after your visit. Here are six tourist attractions in Jamaica that I find very amusing.

1. Dunn’s River Falls

This is one of the most beautiful spots in Jamaica. It is 180 foot high and 600 foot long. It is the most popular falls out of all the falls in Jamaica. This is where most tourists come and enjoy themselves by climbing the falls and feeling the water as it flows down the waterfalls. It also has pools that you can swim in after climbing the falls.

2. Black River Safari

This is where you can go and experience a cruise down one of Jamaica’s longest River, while seeing crocodiles, tropical birds and mangrove trees. I really enjoyed this place because I got the opportunity to get a close look at the Jamaican crocodiles of all sizes, from the little baby crocs to the big ones. It was truly a wonderful experience just to see those amazing creatures and watching as the tour guides called out to them and they came to us.

3. Jamwest Motorsports and Adventure Park

This tourist attraction features a ATV tour, a safari tour, zip line challenge, horseback riding, and a jamwest speedway driving experience. This property is also home to the largest goat farm in Jamaica.

4. Lovers Leap

This historic place is located in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica and was named after two slave lovers, Mizzy and Tunkey, back in the 18th century. It is said that Mizzy’s master wanted her all for himself but she was in love with one of the slave men, named Tunkey, who the master was going to sell to another estate. The two lovers never wanted to be separated so they fled. They ended up at the edge of a cliff and decided if they couldn’t be together they would die together so they jumped.

5. Dolphin Cove

Dolphin cove is a place in Ocho Rios, Jamaica where you can go to swim and interact with dolphins, stingrays and sharks. This place is full of nature and beauty. You can also experience a Jungle trial, where you will see animals, plants and trees.

6. Rainforest Adventures Mystic Mountain

Mystic mountain is a place to go and create a memorable moment with the family. You can experience the beauty of Ocho Rios from 700 feet above ground on a tropical forest adventure tour. You can enjoy the spectacular view, river streams, and a rich forest ecosystem. Another feature of this adventure park is the Rainforest Bobsled which features a 1000m long gravity- drive through the rainforest. This attraction also offers a zip line experience which goes through the rainforest canopy. The SkyExplorer carries guests above the trees to the peak. These fun and safe adventures are a great package deal to experience all of mystic mountains' great wonders. I recommend this place out of all the other places to visit because this is a very unique and wonderful place to experience the natural beauty of the island Jamaica.

Jamaica is surely a beautiful place for your family to experience nature in a way you’ve never seen before.
