Why Cabo is a Great WKND Getaway
You all know I love to travel! My best friend Jen and I decided one Tuesday afternoon that we needed a mini vacation, a sort of quick and inexpensive getaway. She lives in Seattle. We had already arranged with our jobs to have Thursday-Friday off. The only requirements we put on ourselves were that there had to be a beach and a party scene involved. We wanted to spin a globe and end up wherever our fingers landed, but you know – the way our corporate jobs are set up, we needed to be gone no more than 3 days. When you’re a working professional who also happens to be a wanderlust, capitalizing on your weekends off is key when traveling. You shouldn’t have to take several days out of your Paid Time Off (PTO) each time you want to go somewhere. I like to try and save my PTO for longer and more extensive vacations.
My trip to Cuba was actually a slight accident—wait, let me explain. It was a friend of mine's birthday, and we had big plans to travel to the "Travel Instagram Hot Spot" Tulum, Mexico. After getting conformations from both of our jobs, pet sitters, and bank accounts, we realized we were not in the position to pay $966 Roundtrip to go to TULUM! I mean come on, $966 to fly into Cancun sounds crazy. I had to think on my feet where to next? It's one of my best friends birthday's and I realized she needed a break from regular life. Between me and her, there weren't many places we had both never been. After spending two hours looking at a globe sitting on my desk, I realized we had both never been to Cuba. After a quick search on google ( to make sure we were still allowed to go there), I realized this might be an option and she agreed. A week and half before the departure date we booked a extended weekend trip to Havana, Cuba. A roundtrip flight for $360 and an Airbnb for $260 left us a lot of money left over for some fun. We quickly googled, spoke to friends and used youtube to figure out all the things we needed before the trip. We came up with an excuse on why we were traveling to Cuba (Support of the Cuban people—that's why we staid in an Airbnb vs. Hotel). From Atlanta, we had to make a layover at either New York or Florida in order to get our visas (In the airport) to travel into Cuba. Our layover in Florida was quick and easy as well as the visa process.

Surviving a Third World Hospital
I guess before I talk about how I survived, I have to give a little information on how I got there right? Ha, wouldn’t you like to know! So my story isn’t a funny one. It’s actually pretty serious, but it goes to show that if you don’t take a break when you need to, your body will force you to take a break when you’re supposed to. In my heart and body I felt okay, and I wasn’t just being hard headed, but by the time you’re 2/3 up a couple of mountains and you feel congested, do you turn around or keep marching on? I kept marching on.
7 Reasons Why Junkanoo Should Be on Your Bucket List
I was born in the Bahamas so I know all about Junkanoo. I also know that people make a bucket list of all the things they want to do before they get old or die, which is understandable. It might give them a purpose in life. They make their list and focus on it. It helps guide them towards new experiences in life and it also helps them set a goal in life. And that is why I believe that traveling to the Bahamas and being a part of Junkanoo should definitely be on their list. So, I’m going to give you 7 reasons why you should add Junkanoo to your bucket list.
Jamaica - It's Not Alright!
Jamaica was my dream destination: Sun, Sand, and Surf. Unfortunately, the build-up of excitement and anticipation of getting away for a week was probably the most enjoyable part of my trip!
The Power of Distance
When something doesn't work out, what do you do? Eat some ice cream, buy a new sofa, watch your favourite Vine compilation video. They seem like normal responses... ish. To be fair, I did do those things for a while (apart from buying a sofa), but they got boring so I went to the Caribbean for two months instead.
Hidden Gems of the Caribbean
North of Haiti and East of Cuba you will find the Turks and Caicos Islands. The island of Providenciales (Provo to the locals) is home to Grace Bay, consistently voted the best beach in the world. It is the very image of paradise with its white sandy bays and crystal blue waters. However, it is the slightly lesser known Islands of North and Middle Caicos that I would like to draw your attention to today.
What I Did With One Day in Havana
With all that Havana, Cuba has to offer the prospect of spending just a day in the infamous city seemed overwhelming. Our trip to Havana was via the Norwegian Sky, a cruise ship that makes the trip from Miami to Havana and a private island in the Bahamas and back again weekly. Traveling on a cruise is always nice because it requires little planning on the part of the traveler (and you can't go wrong with a cruise that offers an open bar, am I right?). The downside to cruising is the minimal amount of time available to spend exploring the ports.

Just like the fairy tales, this story's catalyst was a masquerade ball. In the summer of 2014, I turned 27. I sold everything that didn't fit into a duffle bag, including my car. I quit my job, and walked away from my entire life. Why? Why not. I felt stuck. I booked a flight to Ft. Lauderdale and the taxi dropped me off at a crew-house situated right next to a sex shop... at night, in the rain. A good, strong start. What's a crew-house? Think The Real World, only thankfully, nobody was broadcasting. The house was a stop-over for potential crew—kids trying to get jobs in the world of private yachting. I remember walking into the house. It didn't look like much from the outside. I had to call a few times to get the owner on the line, I went to meet her around back and entered into the next—truly bizarre—phase of my life. The hallway was lined with refrigerators, the black-tiled floor led to an open concept kitchen and living space with a spiral staircase winding up to a hall of dorms. I was the first to arrive for the season—anxious to have something new in my world—and the emptiness of the house kicked off what would be an extremely long waiting period.
