Florida vs California. What I miss and what I don't.
I've lived in Florida for nearly twenty years, and it was starting to feel like I'd never leave. However, that changed earlier this year, and I now find myself on the opposite coast of the USA. Are there some things that I miss in Florida? Sure. However, there are plenty of things that I don't, and IMO, good riddance!

Nebraska is flat. Ohio is is depressing. Illinois doesn’t have good food - unless you are in Chicago. Vermont is too liberal. After spending several day traveling through these states, my response is to not believe the rumors. In fact, my insights are that none of them are barren, flat, boring, depressing or lacking in good food, and I don’t care about their political views.

Alaska When in Alaska on Ada Island stop by to see the Adak National Forest. Sure it only has a grove of 33 pines that have survived the Alaskan climate but there is a nice sign that says “You are now entering and leaving the Adak National Forest as you drive by. You might want to stop and take a picture. It seemed like a good idea when there was only one tree and others could be planted. During WW II US Army General Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr. decided it would be a good idea to start a tree-planting program. The program was meant to boost the morale of the soldiers who were stationed at this remote Alaskan outpost. Unfortunately, the planted trees could not thrive in the harsh climate but a grove of 33 trees finally survived.

Oak Mountain Ski Resort As we drove up to Oak Mountain Ski Resort in Speculator, NY, we didn't know what to expect. In late September what would be open? Where would we park? There is always a little trepidation when we first arrive at a Harvest Host destination. But as yet, we have never been disappointed. Oak Mountain provided an excellent experience.

We left Bar Harbor on our journey to Portland, Maine with the goal to eat fresh lobster by the end of the day. To be honest that was always the plan from the the moment we pulled out of our driveway in Idaho, but I could virtually taste the delicacy now that we were so close. No matter how tempting our reward at the end of the road, we took time to explore Maine.
