Welcome to Somerset! Somerset is a charming county in the South West of England, and we want you to enjoy your time here. Somerset has so much to offer – from countryside walks and gardens that will make you feel like Alice in Wonderland, all the way through to nightlife that would please even Londoners looking for a break. We’ve compiled this list of things to do when visiting Somerset; it’s sure not disappoint.

Of course I might be a little bias as it’s my home county but I spend a lot of time talking about other places I might as well talk about my home.

Somerset has long been known as the ‘Garden of England’ and with so many gorgeous gardens to visit, you won’t be disappointed. Somerset is also home to some stunning coastline too, including iconic Somerset beaches such as Weston-Super-Mare and Clevedon Pier – where you can take a ride out into the Bristol Channel or maybe you fancy a trip up Cheddar Gorge. If you need some time away from the bustle and hectic lifestyle Somerset is where to go.

Somerset has a lot of small towns, each with their own unique charm and personality – From the hustle and bustle of Burnham-on-Sea to the gastronomic delights of Glastonbury. If you want to get away from it all Somerset is definitely the place to go!

There are plenty of activities to keep you busy, from walking the many green grass routes to visiting Wells Cathedral and all its beauty. Somerset is also a great place to go fishing, with plenty of lakes and rivers to choose from. If you’re more of the adrenaline junkie type then why not try out some mountain biking or even caving?

There are also plenty of events going on throughout Somerset this summer – From carnivals to food festivals, there’s a number of “harvest homes” throughout August celebrations of the autumn time, often with live music, floats in many of the small villages in the heart of the county. Somerset is steeped in history, and there are plenty of museums to visit if you’re interested in learning more about the Somerset heritage.

First one on the list great for those of you that want to experience one of Somerset bigger exports Cheese! Somerset Cheese Farm, is a great spot to sample Somerset’s cheese delights. From the traditional Somerset Brie and Camembert, to more adventurous cheeses like Roquefort Blue or vintage cheddar you are sure to find some tasty treats on offer here!

Next can be found at Somerset West Craft Market where you will feel as if you have gone back in time. From hand crafted furniture, handmade soaps to unique clothing items there is something for everyone.

As we go in we would cover another one of Somerset’s biggest exports Cider, and there are plenty of places where you can enjoy a Somerset cider. The most famous spot for Cider is probably Burrow Hill, which not only has award winning ciders, but also offers tours and food pairings with their ciders.

Moving to Clarks village, from outlets stores of popular brands to things a little more unique, Clark’s Village is a popular shopping destination made famous by its shoes, though to be honest I can’t say I go into the shoe shop too often.

And lastly Somerset’s best kept secret is its incredible hiking trails that offer a number of routes for all levels of hikers. Usually the locals are more than willing to help you find your way along Somerset’s beautiful hiking trails.
