Everything happens for a reason. I'm grateful for the folks I met and the friendships I made in Atlanta. Also to the people, there are many reasons why Atlanta has become one of my favorite cities.

Atlanta, Georgia is an underappreciated city! It offers a variety of activities, including professional sports, world-class sights, and lovely outdoor places. I recommend you to spend a long weekend in Atlanta and see everything it has to offer.

1. Foodie Paradise

If you are a foodie, you may stop reading now since the cuisine alone is reason enough to visit Atlanta! Okay, you should keep reading, because Atlanta is a great place for southern cuisine like BBQ and Chicken & Waffles. Also, there is any other cuisine your little heart desires. The Asian food is especially delicious! The breakfast and brunch options are among the greatest in any city.

2. Concrete Jungle

Atlanta is stunning and quite green. I enjoy a great city skyline (which Atlanta has), but what makes Atlanta so lovely are the flowers and trees. I can't forget the brilliant blue skies, either. If you're not impressed, you must have never lived somewhere with a hazy sky. A city regulation prohibits property owners from cutting down most trees without permission. Walking through the downtown streets in the summer, you'll appreciate the extra shade. In general, homeowners do an excellent job growing and beautifying their lawns. During the spring, flowers bloom in private homes and parks.

3. StreetArt

Some of the best art in the city can be on neighborhood streets rather than inside buildings. Tiny Doors ATL has around 20 hidden entrances across the city. Go on a search for clues to locate them individually. It took me a few years, but I found each one! Murals, but, are easier to find and as enjoyable for impromptu picture shoots! The colors pop against the greenery and clear skies, adding a lot to the city.

4. Discover Where History Comes Alive

Atlantans are amazing at protecting not only their trees but also their ancient buildings and communities. The Atlanta Preservation Center provides excursions through various neighborhoods and historical sites. Every March, when Phoenix Flies, one of the biggest spring festivals, all trips and events are free! Also to historical preservation, Atlanta played an important part in the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement. Visit one of the city's many history museums to learn more about both. The Atlanta Historical Museum and MLK Jr. Historical Park are excellent places to start.

5. Explore Cool Neighborhoods

After residing in Moscow, I developed a new appreciation for color and architectural diversity. Each Atlanta neighborhood is unique. Every location will have a different style of home and type of company. Don't make the mistake that many tourists do by staying downtown and visiting the main Atlanta sites. While you're there, spend some time exploring Atlanta's greatest neighborhoods.

6. Savor the Weather

Deciding when to visit Atlanta? There are advantages and disadvantages for different periods of the year. Summers in Atlanta are far too hot for me, but the rest of the year is ideal. I like how there are several months of true spring and fall, rather than the two days without air conditioning or heat that are prevalent in the Midwest. Winter can hardly be called winter. When it "snows" or "gets cold" and the locals act as if the apocalypse is approaching, it is more amusing than anything else!
