LAKE JOHNSON LOOP TRAIL

Ten minutes from Raleigh's downtown is the Lake Johnson loop trail, which is a favorite hangout for families with young children. Completely paved and equipped with mile markers, the 3-mile trail winds through primarily wooded areas with several lake viewpoints and plenty of shade during the warmer months. A 700-foot boardwalk, a boat house, a small beach area, and picnic shelters are other elements of the trail. It takes the family roughly an hour to walk the entire loop with their children, which makes it a Raleigh favorite activity. LAKE LYNN TRAIL

Families will love the lovely 2.6-mile asphalt circular walk that circles Lake Lynn in Northwest Raleigh. Strollers can enjoy this generally flat trail with a few slight inclines. The trail offers beautiful views as it circles the lake. Beautiful trees provide shelter for much of the trail during the warmer months, however, there is also some open daylight. The Lake Lynn Trail in Northwest Raleigh is an excellent choice if you're seeking privacy. The trail offers a mix of open sunshine and shelter as it circles the lake.

BIKE THE ART TO HEART TRAIL

The 6-mile Art to Heart Trail is a well-liked bike route in Raleigh, which is getting more and more bike-friendly. This point-to-point trail, which is a section of the broader East Coast Greenway, links the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) to downtown Raleigh. Beginning at the NCMA, the walk meanders through the 164-acre park of the museum, going behind Boylan Heights, Pullen Park, Meredith College, and the main campus of NC State University. All in all, Raleigh is becoming a center for cyclists.

ANN & JIM GOODNIGHT MUSEUM PARK

Part of the Museum of Art, the Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park features both temporary and permanent public art pieces by global artists, set against a backdrop of serene gardens, vibrant landscapes, and a terraced pond. With some steeper parts, a 1.7-mile paved loop route provides year-round access to outdoor art and nature exhibitions. There is a trailhead for the Art-to-Heart route, and dogs are permitted on leashes.

SHELLEY LAKE TRAIL

Seven miles northwest of Raleigh's city center is Shelley Lake, which is home to a well-liked walking track. This 53-acre, 2-mile asphalt loop route has a slight elevation change at either end. It is primarily level. Families with children and people of all fitness levels can enjoy it.

HISTORIC YATES MILL POND TRAILS

There are family-friendly paths in Raleigh's Historic Yates Mill, such as the Yates Mill Pond Trail, a lightly trafficked circle good for all ages and fitness levels. The 1-mile Creekside Trail is an extension of the Millpond Trail that leads hikers past NC State's 329-acre dairy farm and deeper into the forest. It crosses wooden planks and passes through the swampy area along the Steep Hill Creek floodplain. It ends in a brief loop.
