The Netherlands boasts the largest port in Europe and it’s located in Rotterdam. The city’s architectural wonders are sure to pull you in. Thanks to the reproduction of the town after the Second World War, before that, the city was like a small town and had narrow streets. Rotterdam is also an attractive place to explore. The architecture is characterized by bold design and high-rise buildings, while the busy seaport helps to infuse the city with a strong work ethic and down-to-earth attitude.

Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands. It has a population of approximately 690,000 and is located in the western part of the country. One day in Rotterdam can be spent at the Maritime Museum, walking along the river Maas, visiting one of many famous streets, or taking a boat tour.

You can explore the real history of Rotterdam city here.

Our One Day Trip To Rotterdam

During our visit, Rotterdam seems slow to wake up. Finally, at 9:00 AM, we arrived at the Rotterdam airport, and most of the places were closed. But thankfully, we started our day well with a good breakfast nearby the airport and planned our day trip to visit famous places in Rotterdam.

Go For Shopping After 10:00 AM

Rotterdam is a city of many famous places, but the shopping in the city is good for the pocket. So we planned our day by shopping. We booked the Rotterdam airport taxi, the best fit for our ride. There are several shops and malls around the area.

Lunch in Rotterdam at Noon

There are plenty of options available to go for Lunch nearby in an excellent district location. One of my friends suggested a restaurant named Gastrobar Hartig, and we went there for lunch. The place was perfect, and the food was terrific, also within our budget.

Visit Cube Houses at 1:30 PM

The cube houses are the craziest building we have ever seen. Once you go there, you must stop for a while to understand its fantasy. These houses were designed by the artist Piet Blom. It was a treehouse because they were intended for forests in mind. The places looked like geometrical shapes and had a beautiful bright yellow color outside. The Kijk-Kubus has been set up like a real house so people can have a real-life experience here.

If you want to experience how your life would be in this cube house, then they also provide facilities for hostellers. You can live there for one day in their hostel and enjoy the different types of vibes.

Timings: Everyday 11 AM to 5 PM

Tickets: 3 Euros

Visit Markthal at 4:00 PM

Visiting a local market is one of my favorite things whenever I travel to a new city, so we explored Markthal after seeing cube houses. Markthal is the most significant artwork globally, with 11,000 square meters of outstanding architecture that includes luxurious apartments, offices, shops, and a great food market.

As we entered the Markthal, we could see why it's named the “Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.” We relaxed at one of their picnic tables and enjoyed the view; we ordered some fries and muffins to make that more joyful.

Opening Hours: 10 AM to 8 PM

Fees: Entry is free

Go To The Erasmus Bridge at 6:00 PM

Here is another Rotterdam landmark that carries his name, the spectacular 800 meters long Erasmus Bridge, or we can say Erasmusburg. The elegant shape of its 139-meter high pylon has given it its nickname, “The Swan.”

We decided to spend our evening with a beautiful riverfront view, so we reached the bridge around 6:00 PM to adore that fantastic evening. The bridge is considered one of the world’s most beautiful bridges, and it includes the territory of the city as Rotterdam’s symbol. So we spent time walking on the bridge, and the view-filled our hearts with peace.

Dinner in Rotterdam at 7:00 PM

After spending a peaceful and relaxing time on the bridge, we were in search of restaurants in the nearby area for dinner. Finally, we found one named HMB restaurant by a side road of the bridge. Their services were just excellent also the food was outstanding.

Wrapping Up

Our one-day trip was just fantastic in Rotterdam. The city seems too more excellent when you go to the places. We found plenty of places to visit but shortlisted some of them which were likable by any Dutch culture lover. Most importantly, the people were very friendly and kind and also ready to help you with guidance. Rotterdam is a worth visiting city while traveling to the Netherlands.
