Sisiman Beach

It was a hot day even if we went to visit the town of Mariveles, Bataan. It seems that the sun is a bit stringer in this area. Maybe because it is a little but lower compared the usual places around. It’s down the mountains and Pacific Ocean is already in sight. It’s just at the back of Corregidor Islands. So the scenery is quite amazing.

Compare it in San Diego, California in the US but only a little remote. The town itself is very crowded since the market place is located there. But similarly, there are a lot of shops and you can see the beaches all over when you turn your head into that direction. There are a lot of fishermen in their boats as well as some cargo ships.

We decided to have a little snack with some street foods around. We had quail egg balls (kwek-kwek), BBQ chicken intestine on a stick (isaw), and some fried squid. It’s all tasty and awesome! Street foods can really be a good treat every now and then as long as you choose which seems to look clean of course.

Bataan is known for its nice beach resorts, we didn’t just stay there to look around. We have decided to go and visit Sisiman Beach. It’s a public beach but not so many people around. It might be because it’s not summer yet. It was December when we visited the place.

The tricycle ride from town costs 15 pesos (around $0.25) for each person. If you want to have it all by yourself, just pay 60 pesos ( about $1.25) and you’re off. It takes around 15 minutes to get to Barangay Sisiman. You can enjoy the scenery while riding the tricycle. It has the fresh breeze of the province. So you can definitely enjoy the ride if you’re from the Metro or from another place.

It’s my first time in this sanctuary. It’s not as commercialized yet as other beach resorts around. You can just rent a cottage for just 100Php for the whole day! There’s also a small store to buy some snacks and drinks. In case you suddenly crave for chips and forgot to bring it yourself. The best part is they didn’t overprice what they sell.

Sisiman Rock Formation (Grotto Hill)

The first thing that caught my eye is the tall rock formation. It’s very steep but you can climb it if you want to see the peak. Just make sure that you don’t do it after the rain or it will get so slippery. If you’re not into climbing, just pose and take a picture. No history about it according to my brother. But he said it’s been there ever since he can remember. Though, people are using it for quarrying.

Another nice thing about Sisiman beach is that you don’t need to rent a cottage if you come as a local. You can just set up a camp near the white lighthouse for free! We bought some snacks and drinks with us from the town proper since we’re just planning to stay for not more than 3 hours. We just want to chill while swimming for a bit.

My daughter enjoyed the most. Knowing kids, they love swimming and adventure. So she did not waste any time and dip in right away. This beach is unusual though. Instead of the sand, there are a lot of huge rocks from the shore. It wasn’t like the usual beach you can see. Just be extra careful because you might slip from the rocks while trying to get into the water. So better check it out when you happen to be in the area.

The Verdict

Overall, the experience we had in Sisiman Beach is extraordinary. It’s fun to visit a place like this that will change your concept about the beach. Since we were so nearby, we are planning to go every now and then. It’s a good place to bring along your family and friends. For me, it’s one of a kind. It’s not too crowded since it’s not the same as the usual beach around the area. It’s the kind of place that you would like to be when you need to meditate or just have some peace and quiet. Indeed, nature can calm your mind when you had too much things going on already.
