Mystery Spot

Just outside Santa Cruz, California amongst the massive redwoods there is a little known place called The Mystery Spot. The place sets itself apart from time, urbanization, and gravity. Yes, gravity. A short hike up the mountain side sits a small cabin that defies one of the greatest forces in the universe. How is that possible? It is a Mystery.

The cabin was discovered in 1939 by a group of surveyors when Mr. Prather, who bought the land, was surveying to build a home. When he and the other workers would enter this area they would experience weird symptoms of lightheadedness and being dizzy, at which time the men would pull out their compass to find their way back to the main construction site, only to find that the compass they relied on did not work properly. As they moved from the site further up the canyon their compass would start to work again.

At first some of the men were contributing this to the idea of a mineral in the ground making this anomaly occur. With further investigation there were no minerals to be found in the area.

Days later they would explore the area more and find that down the mountain side there was a cabin. They entered the cabin and noticed that everything was different. The walls and the angles of the cabin did not correlate with each other. The men felt off kilter as they roamed through the little cabin searching for some evidence of what was occurring.

The Cabin

Mr. Prather became excited about the possibilities of the entertainment and money that this would bring to the area if made into an attraction. He made up his mind to turn this spot into a magical site for people to visit from near and far.

The Mystery Spot was open to the public in 1940. There has been little changes to the area since that time. When you enter the gate it feels as if you are stepping into another dimension; your eyes open for amazing things to happen or see. Some people have said they viewed Big Foot running through the trees of the area. So keep your eyes open and listen for the roar through the trees.

If it was not enough for you to see and experience an abnormal building, there are many other factors to this majestic piece of the forest. The scenery is magnificent as you leave the city life behind and become one with nature. The trees send a sweet aroma throughout the area touching each of the senses. The shade from the trees keeps the area cool even on a blistering hot day. The peace and serenity that penetrates the soul gives one a calm demeanor as the person takes a nature walk and listen to the music the forest makes.

There are many hiking trails that stem from the parking lot of this amazing sight. Wild life will scamper all around you as you stroll through the vast wilderness.

If you become hungry there is a little diner where you can order food and have a picnic on the unique tables that are there for the visitors. The little building is small, but serves its purpose well.

Sit and have lunch.

As you sit and eat in the nature that surrounds you, breezes blow through the trees to keep you cool and at peace. It is so peaceful one could take a nap in the shade.

While the men take naps the wife can feel back at home with a shopping spree in the gift store. The little store sells many beautiful objects that are symbolic to the natural habitat that surrounds it. There are also toys for the kids, and books to read, and some people like walking sticks to keep the kids in line.

At the end of the day everyone in the family will have had an awe-filled time. There is great enthusiasm that is shared by the staff and it is contagious just after a short time being with the employees, hearing their stories about what they have experienced, and feeling the eerie atmosphere. The family will go home with a new appreciation for the wacky and wildness that can occur in the woods.

You can also go home connected to new friends made during your time on the tour, or waiting for food, or even taking a stroll through the small and quaint gardens bumping into each other as you wait for your tour to be called, that you have made during the common experience of being drawn by this invisible, unique, and some feel, creepy force that pulls one to this site from all over the world.
