From Black Friday to New Year's Day 2024, The Beach will host the beach-themed event Winter Wonderland Lights. The Magnificent Holiday Light Display
An immersive celebration that embodies the genuine spirit of the season, The Great Christmas Light Show is held at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex. A 2-mile drive through the park will delight guests with over 2 million lights, 500 enchanting displays, and 30 brand-new animated characters. A memorable experience for people of all ages, Santa's Village provides free pictures, a petting zoo, Santa's Rockin' Christmas Tree, Fire Pits for S'mores, and train rides.
Tree Festival at Ripley's Aquarium
Discover a distinctive Christmas display at Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with more than fifty trees representing each of the country's 55 states and territories. The more than eighteen-foot-tall South Carolina tree displays golf balls, magnolias, and seashells. As part of the standard aquarium entrance price, guests can test their knowledge of each state by visiting this display.

The charming Conway Celebration of Lights begins on Thursday and runs from 6 to 8:00 p.m. through December 24 on the Town Green. The event is held every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
"Thousand Candles" at Night
Over 2,700 hand-lit candles and shimmering lights are on display during Brookgreen Gardens' annual Nights of a Thousand Candles holiday spectacular. This well-liked winter event requires a ticket purchase and includes nightly entertainment beneath the tent, alcoholic beverages, and a warm cup of cider or hot chocolate. Visitors and families must pay for admission.

A Movie Night at Polar Express
In addition to hot chocolate, popcorn, and letters to Santa, the Third Annual Polar Express in Myrtle Beach will also include Holiday Storytime with Chapin Memorial Library and an outdoor screening of "The Polar Express." This sensory-friendly event is open to kids of all ages and runs from 5 to 5:30 p.m.; chairs and blankets are allowed. Admission is free.
Take a Picture with Santa Claus
The Family Fun Festival, scheduled for 12/3, features Santa in Plyler Park, offering workshops with inflatable houses and sleighs, with no photographer present, allowing photos to be taken with personal devices.
Hot Chocolate Stand for the Holidays

Was I a Model in Japan?
During my time in Nagoya I worked and lived at the strangely famous hostel and café Nagonoya. With its chequered floors and florescent lighting it felt quite dated, but I think that was supposed to be part of the charm. The dorms were always fully booked on weekends with domestic tourists and there was always a buzz in the downstairs café. Camera crews were constantly in and out of the place interviewing the Japanese staff members who worked the café. I think it had something to do with the egg sandwiches. At least that was what was on most of the merchandise, except for that one dishcloth with the owner’s face on it. Was I being employed by a local celebrity?

One Minute to Noon
“OK, guys!” I screech over the macaw-like chatter in my sophomore English class. My students are sharing mementos they accumulated during summer vacation. The assignment is to interview each other and write an expository essay about another student’s treasure: Misty’s coquina shells and sand dollars from Florida, Ruth’s two Navajo pottery mugs from New Mexico, Roxy’s perfume from Paris, Kevin’s chocolate from Hershey Pennsylvania, a picador’s sword from a bullfight in San Fermin Spain, where one of my favorite students, Manny Pérez, ran with the bulls at festival.
