Welcome to Pomona

Hello Everyone! Welcome to Pomona California my hometown where I grew up. This city has so much history you wouldn’t believe. Here’s a quick history lesson on this beautiful city.

Pomona was named in honor of the Roman goddess of fruit. The City of Pomona has a history as rich as its fertile soil. The Pomona area was situated along a trade route used by Native Americans. The first recorded inhabitants were the Gabrieleno Native Americans. The valley became known in the 1700's as Rancho San Jose. Pomona is the seventh largest city in the Los Angeles area with over 151,000 residents. Also, aside from its rich history, Pomona is the home of one the biggest county fairs...that’s right! The LA County Fair!

LA County Fair

The LA County fair was first held in October 17, 1922 and has been going strong ever since. This fair has been seen on many media outlets, newspapers etc.... Every year different artists performs, there’s new and fun activities for the family and awesome new rides and foods that are debuted.

Beside the known factors of Pomona, there some places that are not as widely known but are just as good!

The Jelly Donut Drive Thru

The Jelly donut is one of my favorite to go to spots when I’m craving my favorite donut (the chocolate bar) , a mango smoothie, or if I’m really hungry... a sausage, bacon, egg and cheese croissant. I normally stop in the morning before work. I recommend coming in the morning when everything is freshly made. This spot is more of a grab and go. If your looking for something more formal, another place in Pomona that’s good is Pancakes R Us.

Pancakes R Us

Pancakes R Us is known for the delicious pancakes and breakfast selections. If your looking for more of a formal dine in setting, this is the place!

Pancakes R Us is located at 2282 N. Garey Ave in Pomona. Operation hours are from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. This is definitely a must try!

The next place I would like to introduce is the Pomona Fish Market. If you love some fried seafood, Pomona Fish Market will definitely hit the spot. This is a well known establishment in Pomona and must try when visiting.

Pomona Fish Market

This particular spot is very popular in Pomona because of its fried fish meals. Growing up this place was like a second home to us high schoolers along with our other favorite spot called Danhoo’s, These two places was like heaven sent during those days and still is til this day. One of my favorite meals from Pomona Fish Market is there lunch special. The lunch special came with fried fish, shrimp, fries, and hush puppies with tartar sauce and a drink. It is really good!

Like I mentioned Donahoo’s is also another very popular fast food establishments that was very popular when I was younger and is still going strong til this day.

Donahoo’s Fried Chicken

My favorite meal order is the chicken strips with French fries, mashed potatoes and a large buttery soft roll. Let me tell you something, the buttery roll is everything, like the icing on a cake! Lol! In school this place was everything to us because one meal could feed anywhere between 2-3 people. It’s very filling and very tasty. The best time to try this enjoyable meal is around lunch time which is about 12:00 pm noontime.

As you can see, Pomona has some pretty good eatery’s that are worth while but besides that.... Pomona does have some a wonderful night life.

There are several different places to visit at night but these places are the most known to visit while in Pomona. The first is the Art Colony.

The Art Colony in downtown Pomona is a historic neighborhood dedicated to art lovers of all ages. This neighborhood allows art lovers the opportunity to experience nurture art friendly business, be apart of festivals, exhibitions and performances cuisines and entertainment.

A nice place to eat downtown with your friends where you can enjoy the game and play some pool is a well known restaurant and pub by the name of O’Donovans.

O’Donovans is a place that if your having a hard day, you can definitely feel better after having some drinks during happy hour and enjoy something real good off the menu. This is the place where you can definitely unwind if need be. The best time to go is in the evening, because it seems like everything becomes more lively and exciting at night.

After spending time at O’Donovans if your still looking for something to do, or wanna dance and mingle...club Flyway would be the best thing to check out.

Club Flyway is located at the top of the Fox theatre. The Fox Theatre was established April 24, 1931.

The Fox Theater was in the news in 2019 when a hometown native competed in American Idol. His name is Alejandro Aranda. Alejandro Aranda performed at the Fox Threat during the finale and everybody came out to support. It was a beautiful sight to see.
