Every once in a while we all need to escape from our day-to-day life and travel somewhere new. Whether you’re looking for an adventure or just want to take a break, these 9 magical places will provide the perfect opportunity. From mountains of ice to ancient temples, there is something that appeals to everybody.

Here are our recommendations:

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. It’s made up of over 3000 individual reefs and 900 islands, some stretching for more than 300 kilometres. The marine life is magnificent with a wide variety of plants and animals that you can’t see anywhere else in the world. While it’s not the closest to Australia, this site will provide you with an experience that lasts a lifetime.

While in Norway most people think about skiing or hiking among snow-capped mountains and fjords but there are many other things to see here as well. The Lofoten Islands have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are definitely worth a visit. With towering peaks, crystal clear lakes and traditional fishing villages, these islands have something for everyone.

If you’re looking for an ancient temple to explore then Machu Picchu in Peru is hard to beat. This 15th century Inca site was abandoned by the Spanish after they conquered the area and it has been lost to the world for centuries. It was only discovered again in 1911 and is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in South America.

While we’re on the topic of ancient sites, Angkor Wat in Cambodia must also be mentioned. This temple complex is over 1000 years old and covers an area of 400 hectares. It’s one of the largest religious monuments in the world and a must-see for anyone visiting Cambodia.

If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, then consider hiking to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. At 5895 metres high, it’s Africa’s highest mountain and offers stunning views over the surrounding landscape. The hike itself is no easy feat, but the sense of accomplishment you’ll feel when you reach the top is definitely worth it.

If glaciers are more your thing, then consider a trip to Iceland. With its many volcanoes and lava fields, this country is like no other on Earth. And what’s even better is that you can find some of the most beautiful glaciers here. With towering peaks and crystal-clear ice, a trip to Iceland is definitely a must for any nature lover.

While Japan may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of beaches, Okinawa has some of the best in the world. With white sand and clear blue waters, these beaches are perfect for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling. And if that’s not enough, the local culture is fascinating and the food is delicious.

If you’re looking for a place with beautiful architecture and plenty of history, then Spain is definitely worth considering. With its many cathedrals, palaces and castles, there’s something to see around every corner. There are also plenty of museums to explore and some excellent shopping opportunities if you like that sort of thing, just remember not to buy any counterfeit souvenirs!

Every year thousands of people visit Mount Everest in Nepal. It’s the highest mountain on Earth at over 8848 metres high and many have their eyes set on reaching the summit. While it’s not an easy task, the views from the top are definitely worth the effort. If you’re not up for climbing, there are plenty of other things to do in Nepal as well.
