The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 on March 8, 2014, shocked the world and remains one of the biggest aviation mysteries in history. Despite extensive search efforts, no wreckage or debris has ever been found, and the fate of the plane and its 239 passengers and crew members remains unknown.
Human error, extreme weather conditions, and acts of god have caused a fair share of aviation accidents involving commercial airplanes, but very rarely would an object as large as a passenger airplane completely disappear without an explanation.
However, MH370 wasn't the only plane to vanish without a trace. Here are five other planes that have disappeared, leaving behind no answers or closure for the families and loved ones of those onboard.
There are many theories as to how and why these planes have seemingly vanished into thin air, but no one has been able to completely solve these mysterious cases.
Flying Tiger Line Flight 739
On March 16, 1962, Flying Tiger Line Flight 739 disappeared en route from Guam to the Philippines with 93 passengers and crew members onboard.
The plane was carrying military personnel and their families, and its disappearance sparked a massive search effort that lasted for weeks.
However, no wreckage or debris was ever found, and the cause of the disappearance remains unknown. Many theories have been proposed, including pilot error, mechanical failure, and even sabotage, but none have been confirmed.
Amelia Earhart was a pioneering aviator and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937, she attempted to fly around the world with her navigator, Fred Noonan, but the pair vanished over the Pacific Ocean during the final leg of their journey.
Despite numerous search efforts, no trace of the plane or its occupants has ever been found. Theories about what happened range from running out of fuel and crashing into the ocean to being captured by the Japanese government, but none have been proven.
Air France Flight 447
On June 1, 2009, Air France Flight 447 disappeared en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris with 228 passengers and crew members onboard. The plane's automated messages indicated a series of equipment failures, but the cause of the crash remains a mystery.
After an extensive search effort, the wreckage of the plane was eventually located in the Atlantic Ocean, but the exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear. The investigation into the crash revealed that a combination of factors, including faulty airspeed sensors and inadequate pilot training, contributed to the disaster.
Indian Air Force AN-32
In July 2016, an Indian Air Force AN-32 disappeared while en route from Chennai to Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with 29 people onboard. The plane was carrying military personnel and their families, and an extensive search effort was launched to find it.
However, no trace of the plane or its occupants has ever been found. The cause of the disappearance remains unknown, but the Indian Air Force has said that it believes the plane crashed into the ocean.
Flight 19 - Bermuda Triangle
In 1945, five U.S. Navy planes, known as Flight 19, disappeared during a training mission in the Bermuda Triangle. The planes were scheduled to fly from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the Bahamas and back, but they never returned.
The disappearance of Flight 19 sparked one of the most extensive search-and-rescue missions in U.S. naval history, but no wreckage or survivors were ever found.
To this day, the fate of the planes and their crew remains a mystery, fueling numerous conspiracy theories about the Bermuda Triangle's supposed supernatural powers.
Despite various theories about what happened to Flight 19, the truth remains unknown, leaving behind unanswered questions for the families and loved ones of those onboard.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370
Finally, we come to the most well-known case of a plane vanishing without a trace: Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. On March 8, 2014, the plane disappeared while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people onboard.
The search for the missing plane has been one of the largest in aviation history, involving dozens of countries and costing hundreds of millions of dollars. Despite this, no wreckage or debris has ever been found, and the cause of the disappearance remains unknown.
Many theories have been proposed, including pilot suicide, hijacking, and mechanical failure, but none have been confirmed.
In conclusion, the disappearances of these five planes remain some of the biggest aviation mysteries in history. Despite extensive search efforts and investigations, no answers have been found, leaving behind grieving families and unsolved mysteries.

I literally like other comments below recently just watched the Netflix documentary, and it's kind of crazy that we are having this many issues in the airline industry as a whole. Not alot has changed, I thought we would be more advanced to be able to handle things like this this when it comes to technology being that it's 2023. Well written.
Super interesting! Just watched the Netflix doc, will have to research more into these other disappearances.
