A Magical Place for the Entire Family
You've been brainstorming fun summer activities to do with your family/friends for weeks now, and everything seems to be so... repetitive. You've already been to the same aquariums, zoos, and fairs, every year, like clockwork. You ask yourself where a fun, and memorable destination could be. Well, I'm here to tell you all about a great place called The Bronx Zoo. It has been my favorite zoo since I was a little girl, and for good reason. There are a lot of fun activities for the whole family, a broad range of different animals, and great food. I have made my best family memories here, and you can too!
Feeding Sea Lions
This zoo has a wide variety of things to do. They have a Butterfly Garden, Children's Zoo, Congo Gorilla Forest, and Jungle World, just to name a few. The Children's Zoo gives your family the opportunity to greet and pet, goats, sheep, and donkeys. Jungle World has many animals, including, ebony lemur, white-cheeked gibbon, and Malayan tapir. There are also exhibits like the African Plaines, which include, lions, African wild dogs, and zebras. They also have giraffes, red pandas, snow leopards, lemurs, and tree boas. Want to see more? Stop by the Aquatic Bird House or the Mouse House. The Mouse House includes chinchillas, fennec foxes, and a short-eared elephant shrew. There are many more animals that I haven't included, and it doesn't stop there. This zoo also has a 4D theater, a bug shape carousel ride, camel rides, a wild Asia monorail, and a zoo shuttle. Have you ever wanted to feed sea lions or penguins? You can, here at the Bronx Zoo!! There is so much to do at this zoo, and there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy. This zoo is also a great place for your children to learn all about what animals eat, where they live, and how they interact. Your family can go on a Bronx Zoo quest where you can play games, do trivia, go on mini-tours, and get a chance to be a zoo veterinarian, bird expert, or field scientist.
Beautiful Tigers
Getting hungry? There are multiple places to stop and eat. They have the Terrace Cafe, Asia Plaza, food stands, and ice cream. These little restaurants have everything from, burgers, salads, wraps, to kid-friendly menu options. They also have a great gift shop where you can buy little trinkets, post cards, and books. Sound like a good time, yet? Tickets are available now! Ticket prices go as follows:
Adults: 13 or older - $36.95
Child: 3-12 years - $26.95
Senior: 65 or older - $31.95
Child: Under 2 years - $0.00
Family zoo membership: $199.95
Membership includes unlimited access to the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, and Prospect Zoo. It covers two adults, up to four children, and a guest for one year.

Park hours:
March 30, 2018—November 3, 2018:
Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM, weekends and holidays from 10 AM to 5:30 PM.
End of year hours:
November 4, 2018—April 5, 2018 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM
Some exhibits may close early due to weather conditions, but all other exhibits will be open. Always check the site before heading out, their website is updated daily with any closings, special event times, and schedules for special exhibits. If you're thinking about visiting the 4D theater, check out their activities tab and click the Theater option. This will lead you to the list of movies they'll be showing that day. They recently showed Storks in 4D, how fun is that?!

Parenting and Depression
I've had anxiety and depression since I was 11-years-old. I grew up seeing therapist after therapist, and tried many different medications to help, "make me feel better." When I became an adult, I decided that I really wanted to try and get better. I continued therapy, medications, surrounded myself with loved ones, and tried my best everyday to get up and be positive. Then, I found out I was pregnant. I was in a brand new relationship, I had just started feeling better, and now I had to worry about how I was going to be a parent. When I went to my first ultrasound appointment, they informed me that the medications I was taking for my depression and anxiety, were not suitable for pregnancy. I was told that I needed to stop taking it, and I needed to find something else to take that was safer. Come to find out, all the "safe" medications I had already tried without success. So there I was, pregnant, confused, and without medication. I continued therapy and did my absolute best to make sure that I prepared myself, the best that I could have, to be a parent. My pregnancy seemed to fly by, surprisingly. Before I knew it, I had my baby boy in my arms, and he was perfect. I was so happy!! But soon after, that happiness became stress, sadness, and worry. I was slipping back into my depression, and being sleep deprived did not help with that. I felt like my world was crashing down, and although I was happy my baby was healthy and thriving, I felt like I wasn't good enough. After a while, my therapist and doctor thought I could have Post Partum Depression. This is a type of depression that woman can get after pregnancy, whether you had depression prior to pregnancy or not. I went through therapy, started medications again, and I started to feel better. Now, my son is 4-years-old. He's incredibly smart, funny, and a good kid. I am a lot better now, but I still struggle. Some days are better than others, and sometimes I just really want to sleep all day and do nothing. But I remind myself that I am stronger than I think. I look at my son's pictures, his artwork hung on the wall, and think about his little laugh. Being a parent isn't easy, but being a parent with depression makes it a lot harder. You have to remind yourself on a daily basis that your child needs you. Knowing that means you also need to take very good care of YOU. You are a mom, you are your child's Superwoman, and they look up to you. If you feel you are depressed, think of the reasons that make you want to get up in the morning, to have fun with your child. I found many things that help me with my depression, and so now, I am going to share those things with you.

Was I a Model in Japan?
During my time in Nagoya I worked and lived at the strangely famous hostel and café Nagonoya. With its chequered floors and florescent lighting it felt quite dated, but I think that was supposed to be part of the charm. The dorms were always fully booked on weekends with domestic tourists and there was always a buzz in the downstairs café. Camera crews were constantly in and out of the place interviewing the Japanese staff members who worked the café. I think it had something to do with the egg sandwiches. At least that was what was on most of the merchandise, except for that one dishcloth with the owner’s face on it. Was I being employed by a local celebrity?
