About an hour’s drive from the Costa Rican capital of San Jose lies the city of Jaco. This is a small coastal, town located in the central Pacific and makes the perfect tropical retreat for adventurous folks. You may want to leave behind your makeup, high heels, and ironed shirts because you will not need them at Jaco! This town is like a tourist magnet. With its pristine beaches, wondrous jungles and challenging surf, there are plenty of adventures you can look forward to.

This land area is also home to some stunning vegetation and exotic wildlife in Costa Rica. Each tour is manned by expert guides and is available mostly in English and Spanish. Apart from a tram ride to the forest top, the tour includes hiking on maintained paths and zip-lining back through the rainforest. Jaco Beach

With mountains and a jungle ambiance that seems straight out of movies, the Jaco beach is the most visited beaches in the country. The town has many hidden beaches and is popular for sportfishing. It also has excellent surfing spots that are suitable for beginners and experts. You can even check out the nearby surfing spots like Hermosa, Boca Barranca, Esterillos, and Escondido.

The southern end of Jaco beach has smooth spilling waves that are suitable for beginners. The waves get stronger and larger as you move along the northern tip. You can rent the boards in town and take up surfing lessons as well. Relax on a beachfront bar or café after a long day in the sun. Sport Fishing

Nevertheless, Costa Rican laws require you to obtain a fishing license and use circle hooks. You must also release the fishes back to the ocean. With boats ranging from 26 to 47 feet, there is ample room for a great coastal experience.

Tárcoles

In the traditional language, the term Tárcoles means crocodile. As such, it is perfect for hosting some of the best crocodile shows in the country. Tárcoles is located about an hour north from Jaco and sits on the Tárcoles Riverbank. The watershed from this area covers about 50% of Costa Rica! Many species of lizards and birds have made this river as their home.

This includes the common Basilisk, American crocodile, several varieties of iguanas, the Tiger Heron, Mangrove Warbler, Anhinga, and the American Pygmy Kingfisher. In fact, this river has the largest population of crocodiles in the entire Americas. So, you cannot really swim in this place.

Manuel Antonio

Perched on top of a mountain, this hilly town is named after the National Park located at the end of its beach. The resident monkey population here is speculated to outnumber the human residents! The main beach is the Playa Espadilla that you can best visit in the morning when the currents are slower. You can enjoy some traditional shaved ice and taste the delicious dishes offered by the restaurants in the area.

Visit the Manuel Antonio National Park that is popular for its gorgeous trails. There are four beaches that make up from the Park’s boundaries—Playita, Teldoro, Manuel Antonio, and Espadilla Sur. These are great for snorkeling and has tidal pools as well.
