The Dubai travel pass is called the Nol card. Nol cards come in three colours: blue, silver, and gold. If you don’t want a multiple-trip Nol card, you can purchase a Red card, which is a single-trip travel pass.

Dubai's public transport system is split into seven zones, covering Metro stations, bus stops, and tram points. With your travel pass, you can choose whether you want to stick to just one zone, venture into two, or roam all over the city.
The card can be topped up for up to 10 rides, and the starting price is just 2 AED. As for the Silver Card, it'll cost you 25 AED, which includes 19 AED of credit. For tourists, the Silver Card is usually the top pick.
How to Buy a Travel Pass Online
To top up the travel pass, you need to have a travel pass – you can buy one from a vending machine or go to a ticket office. Once you have a card, this is how you can top it up online:
- First, download the Nol Pay app and log in using your UAE Pass.
- Once you're in, scroll a bit on the app's main page and tap on Purchase Travel Pass.
- Now, put your Nol card on the back of your phone. Wait for a second, then take it off when the app gives you the thumbs up that it's done scanning.
- The app will then pull up details from your Nol card, like how much money is on it and your transaction history.
- Pick the Travel Pass you're after. What you can go for will depend on your Nol card type.
- Time to pick your zone. There are three types of zones:
- Just the one zone.
- Two neighbouring zones.
- All the zones.
- Pinpoint the specific zones you fancy travelling to on the map you see.
- Time to pay up! Use your credit or debit card to pay online.
- All paid? Great. Give your card another quick scan to get it activated and you're good to go!
What if You Use the Nol Card in Zones Not Covered by the Pass?
Don’t worry; it’s not a crime. If you use your Nol card outside zones covered by the pass, you’ll have to pay regular Metro rates.
