If you ever come across a chance to travel to Batticaloa in Sri Lanka, do not miss it, because it’s one part of the country that must be explored. Due to the civil war which prevailed in Sri Lanka for over 3 decades, many people including the tourists were afraid of visiting attractions on this part of the island, but now things have changed. Beaches like Pasikudah have become Sri Lankan highlights making Sri Lanka prouder. A beach vacation in Pasikudah is a great idea and here’s how to do it right.

Traveling to Pasikudah

Based on where you are from, the modes you can take to reach Pasikudah can vary. If you are in Colombo, you can easily get there by train. The nearest station to Pasikudah is the Valaichchenai station and from Colombo, two trains travel to this station. Generally, this train journey takes about 8 hours, and then to go to Pasikudah, you will have to take a tuk-tuk. If train trips are not your thing, you also have the option to take a public bus. There are many busses to Batticaloa from anywhere in Sri Lanka such as Colombo, Kandy, and Badulla, and then again, to reach Pasikudah, you will need to get a tuk-tuk. You also have the more expensive options of transportation such as by car or by flight, which can grant you convenience much better than the public transportation modes.

Finding your place to stay in Pasikudah

Pasikudah is not a rural, under-developed city anymore. Many developments have occurred ever since the war ended in 2009 and today, it’s a major attraction in terms of the tourism industry of Sri Lanka. So, many Pasikuda beach resorts can provide quality accommodation options for you while offering you all the luxury that you need. Resorts the likes of Uga Bay are very popular among the tourists and with these options, you can really explore the Pasikudah beach much more. Do not forget to enjoy at least one meal (preferably lunch) at the resort you stay at because it’ll be a great loss if you miss the authentic taste that the Sri Lankan dishes carry.

The Pasikudah Beach

Enjoying the Pasikudah beach is the whole purpose of your tour, right? So, do not miss even the slightest bliss that this beach has to offer you. If you wish to snorkel or deep dive here, yes, you are allowed to do so, but keep in mind that you really should be responsible for your own safety. The waves here are also the best for surfing, but whatever you do, it’ll be under the hot tropical sun and that’s something that can’t be changed. Water sports that tourists engage in here include kite surfing, boogie boarding, and also sailing across in a canoe. Yes, there are some shady spaces thanks to the palmyra trees, but do not forget your sunscreen, sunglasses, and a big hat when you come here to enjoy the sea.

The Kalkudah beach

Pasikudah and Kalkudah are located so close to each other, but there are some differences, especially in terms of popularity. Pasikudah is increasingly becoming more popular as a tourist hotspot, but the Kalkudah beach is not (for now). So, the beach is still in natural shape, and even over the weekend, you don’t really see many people on the shores except for a few tourists and local fishermen. If you are someone preferring serenity over eventful moments, just visit this beach too and lay down on the sands for hours till you feel at peace.
