Known as the "Lion City", Singapore is a cosmopolitan country with everything from modern marvels to historical sites. An ideal destination for business or leisure, it has something for everyone be it for solo travellers, families or couples. While you may spend time researching all the things to do in Singapore, you may forget to consider the other important factors that go into helping you prepare and plan your trip. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Check for COVID-19 Updates

When travelling in a world hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to be informed on the latest updates and guidelines in the country you are visiting. When it comes to Singapore, you can check official websites like the SafeTravel site (https://safetravel.ica.gov.sg/) for more information.

The international borders in the country are opening up and will no doubt continue to do so with stringent guidelines in place. Some nations have been granted what is called an Air Travel Pass or are part of a Green / Fast Lane arrangement which permits short-term visitors. Do remember to always follow the health guidelines including wearing a face mask and maintaining social distancing.

Consider Your Arrival Options

Arguably, the most popular way to travel to Singapore is by air with the country's Changi Airport amongst the most well-connected and busiest airport hubs in the world. This award-winning airport has connections to around 400 cities and is home to the national airline, Singapore Airlines.

You can also access the Lion City via land from Malaysia with two checkpoints to be found at Woodlands (North Region) and Tuas (West Region); if driving, you need to have a valid Autopass card and motor insurance. Alternatively, you can arrive by sea, with various cruise operators offering connections to terminals like the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore.

Choose Where to Stay

A melting pot of diverse cultures, the city has equally diverse neighbourhoods each with something different to offer. In Singapore, hotel promotion options can be found at properties in these key areas as well and are worth checking out.

A waterfront district, the HarbourFront area is in the southern part of the country and is popular with those looking for beachside getaways. If you are a shopaholic or foodie, then Orchard Road home to luxury malls and hotels the likes of Grand Park Orchard will be ideal. The Singapore River area gives you access to nightlife hotspots such as Clarke Quay, the Civic District offers insights into the city's history and heritage and Chinatown and Little India provide different cultural experiences too.

Plan How to Get About

When it comes to transport, one of the easiest ways to get around is by way of the MRT or Mass Rapid Transit. It provides convenient and fast access to various parts of the city, within easy reach of many of the main attractions in Singapore. Consider purchasing a Singapore Tourist Pass (STP) which comes with options for unlimited travel be it for one, two or three days. Alternatively, you can make use of public buses which offer comfortable, air-conditioned transport around an extensive city network; you can use the above mentioned Singapore Tourist Pass on buses too.

You also have the option of hailing cabs which are ideal to get to any areas which are not directly accessible by the MRT or bus services; these cabs will have meters though for some you may have to pay a surcharge, so check before you begin your journey. For some pedal-powered sightseeing, you can also hire bicycles and take advantage of the network of cycling paths including those amidst the city's enchanting green spaces.
