Introduction

Dreaming about an adventure and then finally embarking on it might seem like a daunting task but it doesn't have to be. If you are planning something as exciting as a trip to Africa, we have covered with a few quick tips. You can broadly define them according to your unique situation and use it to get over the fear of doing and start the next great chapter of your life.

Start Saving Today

If you are heading off to Africa, you would be because it is very expensive. But that's not the case if you are careful about it and plan everything. So, begin with savings. There are plenty of ways to save money while travelling in Africa and this would include travelling only through public transport, camping, volunteering and couch-surfing if that is something you would be comfortable with.

But at the same time, some activities are unique to the African continent like safaris across the nature reserves, white water rafting, mountain climbing and hikes to obscure places to see the best of nature that will come with a cost. So, the first point in your plan is to begin saving as much as you can.

Think About Where You Want to Go

The next step is planning where to go. The African continent is vast, and every country is starkly different from the next. So, ask yourself what it is you want to see and how you plan on going about this adventure. Will you be limiting yourself to a country or will you explore several African countries in succession? For example, you could arrive in Namibia, stay at one of the Windhoek hotels and then cross the border into Botswana and Zimbabwe, exploring the natural beauty of each country as you go.

Think About When You Want to Go

Once you decided where you want to go, consider when you want to be there. Is there a festival that you would like to experience? When will these countries experience the rainy season? Will local resorts the likes of Avani Windhoek Hotel & Casino have seasonal offers?

To think about when would be the perfect time for you to go you need to think about four major aspects that will inform your trip; seasons, the weather, local events and any others such as Ramadan in Muslim countries or impeding elections or political upheavals in the country you are planning to visit.

For seasons, think about the activities you are hoping to engage in. Does the seasonal migration of wildebeests, for example, coincide with your plans? Then you should plan to go there on time.

For the weather, it is not merely a case of if you like getting wet in the rain or not, in some African countries the monsoons can be quite fierce. Prices will be high during winter times, especially school holidays and Christmas. There are also cool local events that you can also take part in like the Lake of Stars in Malawi and Africa Burn in South Africa.

Decide How Long You Want to Go For

The next plan on your schedule is how long you want to be in Africa for. If you are planning on hopping from country to country across the continent, then you would have to stay a bit longer. If you are only planning on visiting one country, a week or two would be sufficient. This would depend on what you are planning to visit when you are planning to go and of course your budget constraints as well as how long of a holiday your place of work will give you.
