1. About Mirissa
Located on the southern coast, Mirissa is a laidback town in Sri Lanka. It is a 100-metre journey from Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. The beach and the vibrant nightlife are the main highlights of the town. Despite its popularity as a tourist destination, Mirissa beach is less crowded than other beaches in the region. However, owing to its palm trees and crystal clear waters, the beach is visited by surfers from around the globe. Surfing is one of the main tourist things to do in Mirissa.

3. Getting to Mirissa
Bandaranaike International Airport is the main airport in Sri Lanka. There are frequent flights from and to the airport, so you won't have trouble getting to Sri Lanka. From the airport, you can get a taxi or a car. If you decide to spend a few days in Colombo, getting to Mirissa becomes even easier. From Colombo, you can take the bus or the train. You can also hire a taxi. Getting the bus is the cheapest way of travelling to Mirissa, and it is quintessentially Sri Lankan. You can get off at the beach and take a taxi to your hotel. Travelling by taxi is the most expensive way of travelling to Mirissa, but it is the most comfortable.

You have several options. Tuk-tuks are the most popular transport method in Mirissa. However, keep in mind that the tuk-tuk drivers aren't exactly trustworthy; they are likely to quote a higher price than the usual price, so make sure that the metre is on before getting in. You can also take the bus, and walking is an option too.
5. Best time for a surfing trip
In this part of the country, the temperature level is way higher. The period from November to March is the best time to surf. Surfing in the morning is the best thing to do. If you visit Mirissa Bay in the morning, you can expect an intermediate level of waves. Make sure you check the weather forecast before heading out for your surfing excursion.
6. Surfing
Mirissa is known for its unique crescent shape. The sandy beach and the left and right-hander waves are perfect for both experienced and intermediate level surfers. You can surf a right-hander throughout the beach. Close to the beach, you get left-hander wavers. The wavers are protected from the onshore wind, which means that a beginner can practice surfing here.
7. Where to eat
This little town offers a range of dishes; the restaurants serve both international and traditional Sri Lankan fares. Sampling the local food is something you should do on your surfing trip to Mirissa.
8. Surf lessons
Although this town is regarded as an advanced surf spot, there are plenty of surf schools to be found here. These schools offer a variety of lessons, including packages, half-day lessons, full-day lessons and two-hour lessons; you should choose the lesson depending on your level of expertise. These lessons are affordable, and they are aimed at tourists.
9. Other activities
Mirissa is the host of many other activities, and one is whale watching. The best time for whale watching is the period from November to March.
