Dreaming of…those pristine shores with soft white sand, sunshine and sea? The waters are as blue as the sky and crystal clear. The colourful fish swim in and out of vibrant corals and…oh…don’t forget the luxurious accommodation designed for comfort. A lovely dream, it really is, but how do you plan a trip to the Maldivian paradise with family?

Research on the destination

When it comes to Maldives, the first thing that comes to mind is that it is a bit of an expensive destination. This is true and is so because of its size and geography, but this doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy a vacation on a budget in Maldives. You’ve just got to do a bit of research and you’ll find your options available. The best way to do this would be to sit down and discuss with your family what sort of environment you are looking for.

Is it a beach villa or an overwater villa that you and your family would prefer? Does it need to be closer to the main island or are you willing to splurge on a seaplane ride to an island that’s a bit further away? You’ll also need a resort that offers a family-friendly environment if you’ve got kids below the age of 12, a kiddie’s club for instance would be a source of entertainment for the little ones to make sure they have some fun as well. Make sure the resort in Maldives that you are going to select ticks off all the boxes on your checklist for the perfect family island holiday.

Best times to visit the Maldives

So, if you really want the best experience when on your holiday, you’ll need to select the ideal time to visit. When it comes to Maldives, the island has two seasons, the wet season and the dry season. The dry season is from November to April which is when most travellers like to visit. But the peak season for travel in Maldives would be from December to March. Keep in mind that if you decide to travel during peak season, stays will be a little bit more expensive. Nonetheless, the experience is clearly worth every penny at resorts like Reethi Faru Resort.

Although, if you are travelling on a budget, the wet season too isn’t all that bad as Maldives is never short of sunshine at any time of the year. You’ll just see a few occasional showers, but this will not stop you from enjoying what your resort island has to offer. Since this is an off-peak season, the stays are less expensive, and the availability is more. However, no matter which season you choose to travel in, advance bookings are recommended to make sure you don’t get disappointed.

How to get there

Getting to Maldives is pretty straightforward. All international flights land on the main island of Male. It is easier to reach Male if you are travelling from countries like Sri Lanka that are located close by. But the real journey begins once you’ve actually reached the main island. When you arrive at the airport, you’ll find a representative from your resort waiting for you at the airport. You will then be escorted to the resort lounge to wait for either your speed boat ride or seaplane ride to the island on which you will be spending your holiday. Generally, seaplane rides are a bit more expensive than speed boat rides. But most resorts have both options, so you can always select what you are most comfortable with. However, if your resort island is located quite far away from the main island, you might have to take a seaplane in order to get there before nightfall as there is no transport at dusk.

Plan your activities

Now that you’ve figured out where you want to stay when you will be going to Maldives and which method of island transport you prefer, it's time to plan out your activities. Now, what are the activities your dream holiday includes? Diving, snorkelling, surfing, parasailing and much more are available if you intend on exploring water sports in Maldives. But that’s not all that this destination offers, enjoy a little romance in the sunset on a dhoni ride or cruise boat, or perhaps pamper yourselves with a spa treatment to take that tiredness away.
