As one of Asia's most popular tourist destinations, Vietnam is not only a cultural point of interest but a recreational heartland for the masses. Offering visitors a wealth of novel experiences, a trip to Vietnam requires both planning and forethought, especially where packing is concerned. From must-have clothing essentials to accessories you cannot do without, here is a comprehensive list of items to pack for your vacation in Vietnam.

1. Clothing Must-haves

Regardless of the time of year, packing clothing for a Vietnam trip is quite uniform even if one is travelling to the country in the dead of winter. Those who are hailing from western nations will hardly feel the difference in the 17-22°C fluctuations of this so-called "cold" period although those who are travelling in the summer may wish to take along more breezy clothing options as it can get quite humid in the beach capitals. Cotton clothing is a must for all holidaymakers as it is the only fabric that can withstand the heat as well as the cold in Vietnam without causing too much discomfort to the wearer. Shorts, tops and long pants and skirts made of cotton are ideal for a Vietnamese getaway while a few sundresses will also come in handy. Keep a few conservative clothing options to wear for temple visits and don't forget to pack a bathing suit and your sunglasses.

2. Footwear

Although flip-flops and sandals are more than enough for a brief beach holiday in Vietnam, those who wish to engage in more adventurous activities during a getaway may also want to pack waterproof shoes or sneakers. Hiking boots will also come in handy for those who are planning to hike up the Vietnamese wilderness while lightweight socks and hiking socks are also essential for travellers who will be spending time in the great outdoors.

3. Other Essentials

Those who have made reservations at Citadines Blue Cove Danang or any similar Da Nang Condotel need not pack toiletries such as soap and shampoo but those with sensitive skin or specific skincare routines may wish to pack enough toiletries to last till the end of their Vietnam trip. Hand sanitisers are a must in Vietnam, especially since access to clean water is not always available outside of the big cities. Pack several bottles of hardcore bug repellent to keep the ever-present mosquitoes and flies at bay and to prevent one from contracting various viral diseases by coming into contact with insects. A tiny first aid kit will also come in handy for those who intend to spend time outdoors as bandages, band-aids, antiseptic cream, and antibiotic sprays may be hard to find in Vietnam's rural areas. Sunscreen and ChapStick are also must-haves whether you are hoping to spend time by the sea or not.

4. Medications

Tourists who are suffering from chronic conditions and are in the habit of consuming certain medications daily should pack sufficient supplies to last throughout the holiday and bring along their prescriptions. Anti-diarrhoea medicine and antacids will also prove useful for those who are not used to Asian cuisine and spicy dishes.

5. Accessories and Comfort Items

Chargers for your mobile phone, digital camera, tablet, or laptop must be packed carefully and away from any liquids in your luggage. A travel pillow and a backpack must also be securely packed to use on train rides and other long excursions away from the capital. Earplugs, headphones, and an e-reader will also be useful to keep the outside world at bay during travel. Power banks should also be brought along as access to power sources may be scarce in certain areas of the country while electronic adapters will also help your tech-gear to stay charged using local power outlets if the sockets are different to that one is used to at home.
