Excited about an impending getaway to the Maldives? Things to do and see might be what are most on your mind, but don’t forget to give a thought on what you need to pack as well! There are many things to keep in mind in this regard so take time to consider what you need be it for days on the beach or when exploring. To help you get started, here are some tips and insights that will come in handy.

Pack Suitable Clothing

As with tropical destinations, you can expect plenty of sunny days when in the Maldives. Island resorts are ideal options when it comes to places to spend your holiday and there are no restrictions here on wearing short attire (this is not the case on local islands).

Pack light cotton clothing be it mini or long shorts, skirts, t-shirts, tops, linen shirts, comfy slacks, etc. You can also bring an elegant dress or dressy shirt if you plan to enjoy some fine dining or a romantic meal on the beach offered at some resorts. When it comes to footwear, you will probably be enjoying barefoot living though it’s also good to have some slippers / flip-flops too! Alternatively, flats or sandals can be taken too.

Have Swimwear Options

It is more than likely when holidaying at a private resort in Maldives, you are going to be spending a lot of time in the water be it at the pool or the mighty Indian Ocean. This is especially true at properties such as Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi which offer ocean villas which have stairway access to the waters below so you can have a swim any time you want.

While you will need a swimsuit, consider packing more than one. This way, you will not have to wear the same thing day in day out, while you can also get many different Insta pics to post daily too! You can wear bikinis on private island resorts (NOT on local islands though) so feel free to pack them along with your favourite (or new) one-piece swimsuit; bring a kaftan or cover-up too which will come in handy if you want to walk around but don’t want to change out of your swimsuit. Guys can wear swim shorts or swimming trunks and should pack a few options too.

Bring Attire for Activities & Excursions

No vacation would be complete without trying some of the many water sports in Maldives; excursions are also on offer, so it is a good idea to pack suitable clothing with that in mind as well. When it comes to water-based activities like snorkelling, diving or surfing, you can consider bringing a wetsuit or rash guard.

Depending on the resort, you can head off on excursions to the capital, Male, as well as other local islands where you can see various attractions and witness more traditional culture. When on such visits, it is essential you remember that this is a Muslim nation and unlike on private islands, when at local islands you need to dress conservatively. Wear clothing that covers bare shoulders as well as legs; bring a scarf or cover-up which will come in handy too.

Have Sunscreen & Sun Protection

You may be excited about basking in glorious sunshine but remember that all that exposure could lead to a bad case of sunburn. Bring sunscreen and plenty of it for you and your loved ones; ideally, choose a product that is SPF 30 or more, reef-safe and offers protection from UVA and UVB rays. Apart from this, pack a pair of sunglasses which will help to ease eye strain from the glare and have a good sunhat which will add a sense of style to your selfies too!
