When planning your Singapore tour, you generally plan where to stay in, where to shop, dine at, and even about the street food spots and clubs and pubs that you'll be trying out when you are there. But, little we do pay attention to ways and means to get around in the country, which is indeed one of the most significant concerns whilst there. This guide shall provide a detailed understanding of the transportation modes in Singapore, and their pros and cons as well.

Walking

Yes, Singapore is a relatively small country, but that doesn't mean that you can walk to all destinations in this country. But still, walking will be fun for shorter distances, especially in between neighbourhoods enjoying their sights and atmospheres. Travelling to many attractions such as Gardens by the Bay and the Singapore Flyer from any luxury hotel in Singapore the likes of PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay will just be a matter of walking a few miles, and this will be a great physical exercise too.

Subway

This is so far the best and the most convenient method to get around Singapore. The MRT subway system available in the country is highly organised, and this underground network covers the entire country and you'll also love the standards they maintain in their network. They are super clean and even if you are someone who has not used MRTs ever before, with the maps that are available at every station, you can easily understand the process. It's also inexpensive because no matter how far you travel, the fares will not exceed 2.50 SG$ (around 1.85 USD). For payments, they also have introduced the EZ-Link rechargeable card system and you may use one if you intend to be in Singapore for a longer period.

Cars

If what you've used to do when you visit another country is to rent a car and ride it by yourself, you can do it here in Singapore too. There are rental offices at the airport and there are also some reputed companies throughout the country, but note that this can be an expensive option. Driving in Singapore is a bit of a tedious job because of the terrible traffic conditions, and on the other hand, parking costs are very high no matter where you go. In Singapore, they drive on the left, so if you are not used to this, it'll be better if you try another transportation mode.

Taxis

Since cars are troublesome, most travellers opt for taxis when they visit Singapore. Especially when you are in a hurry, you can get a taxi and they are usually reasonably priced. All these taxis have meters and try yo ensure the meter is at zero when you get into one. For each kilometre that gets added, they normally charge SG$ 0.22 (around $0.16) which is very reasonable. Tip - Taxi drivers are very chatty sometimes, and they are very good at English too.

Buses

Busses will always be available to travel anywhere in Singapore. If you are travelling to Singapore for the first time, you'll be slightly confused with the bus routes (which is normal) and, you will have to get a local to assist you if that happens. Your bus fare will be based on the distance you are going to travel and also at the time of the day. And, what's so impressive here is that the fares will also be based on the traveller type you belong to because they have different fare schemes for adults, children, and senior citizens. Just as the MRTs, the busses are also very clean and they also follow efficient time schedules most of the time.
