While being away from home may be an unusual way to ring in the New Year, many travellers around the world opt to vacation in their favourite parts of the world as the clock strikes 12 at the end of each year. Enjoying a New Year celebration abroad depends on a variety of factors which are not limited to one's personal preferences and what the destination itself has to offer. Here are some tips on how to make the most of your New Year's Eve away.

1. Go off the Beaten Track

When one is planning to spend New Year's Eve away on holiday, selecting a destination can be the most daunting aspect of setting travel plans in motion. While it is tempting to select a big city that's popular around this time of the year the likes of New York City or the British capital, those who wish to enjoy their New Year abroad may want to pick less obvious choices. There's nothing worse than leaving home for the holidays to end up in a tourist hotspot that's congested with tourists and party-goers as one is also likely to find that all tourist commodities are also priced higher due to the large influx of travelers. Pick a less popular location instead and make a choice based on your previous travels so no nasty surprises can spoil your New Year. Don't make an extensive schedule covering the breadth of a country either. Select one city or town and one country as you want to spend the time off from work in a meaningful way without hopping around needlessly and tiring oneself out.

2. Prioritize Comfort

From selecting hotels and resorts to the things you intend to wear on the trip, prioritizing comfort is key to enjoying this special trip at the end of the year. Choose clothes that are suitable for the weather in the holiday hotspot but also comfortable to wear and don't forget to apply the same principle to footwear, jackets and other elements on your packing list. Pack a book you've been meaning to read as well as other entertainment devices, preferred snacks and toys( in the case of families) so you and your loved ones have everything required to experience a blissful New Year.

3. Don't Opt for Connections

Although it may be a popular way to cut costs and pay less for flights, avoid choosing flights that require catching connections or long transits in various airports. The hassle and the inconvenience of spending large portions of time stuck in an airport can seriously dampen the holiday spirits so pay more to enjoy a direct flight to the destination of your choice. It is well worth the extra dollars. Making your trip as seamless and as uncomplicated as possible should be a top priority as the holiday season is already a stressful time to travel.

4. Stick to a Budget

It may be tempting to go all out and spend everything at one's disposal for one last hurrah at the end of the year but waking up to a New Year in a bad financial space is not ideal. Create a flexible budget for your New Year travel plans and stick to it. While it is fair to expect to pay a considerable amount for accommodation, there are sites the likes of Excellent Hotel Deals as well as seasonal event promotion & deals online to help holiday makers spend less.

5. Prepare in Advance

As with planning every other travelling experience, getting a head start is crucial for those who intend to be miles away from home, come the 31st of December. Early hotel and flight bookings can not only cut costs but also help travellers select better accommodation options and commodities as reserving rooms and flights in a rush is a stressful experience during the holidays.
