How to explore Brisbane in a day
Brisbane is one of those places on earth that makes you forget your troubles for a little while
Its laid-back character is what most tourists look for on vacation. Situated on the east coast, Brisbane is the capital of Queensland. This lively city gives you access to beaches, and it offers you an excellent dining and shopping scene. Brisbane is also known for its warm and pleasant weather which remains pleasant throughout the year.
A 24-hour Brisbane itinerary
In a day, a tourist can manage to visit the most important sites of the city, and most of them are located within walkable distance to Brisbane hotels. The city has a diverse range of eateries and bars to spoil tourists as well. Accommodation is excellent, Brisbane is known for the likes of Oaks Brisbane Mews Suites.
Roma Street Parkland
This is a massive park that features waterways and gardens, and they are presented in unique designs. Located west of CBD, Roma Street Parkland is only a short walk from some of the top attractions in the city. The park expands over 16 hectares and features several themes. The amphitheatre you see at the park was used to stage various plays. You'll also see a bit of Australian wildlife here.
Bell tower at Brisbane City Hall
A trip to the city hall might not sound enticing, but the one in Brisbane has a bell tower that brings you great views of the city. Brisbane City Hall offers free tours to visitors, and the place is surrounded by coffee shops and cafes.
The Museum of Brisbane
The museum occupies the third floor of the city hall and displays a range of artefacts. You can enter the museum without paying money, but if you are to take a tour, you'll be charged a small fee. Some items are meant for kids, and they are given an interactive, hands-on experience.
Queen Street Mall
You don't have to move far away from the city to visit Queen Street Mall; the place is located opposite the city hall. Though called a mall, it's not a mall but a shopping district. You get several buildings and shopping centres here. This retail space is occupied by nearly 700 vendors, and they offer a range of merchandise.
Victoria Bridge
If you walk towards the southwest, you can cross the river on Victoria Bridge. The bridge goes over Brisbane River and gives you access to South Brisbane; this is where you find all the top museums and galleries of the city. The bridge is extremely busy with people and vehicles, so, you need to be a little careful. The bridge has a lookout point that gives you views of the riverfront and CBD skyline.
The Queensland Art Gallery
By walking to the other side of the bridge, you can get to the Queensland Art Gallery. It's been in Brisbane since 1895, and it displays a variety of artwork. The collection of exhibits seen here includes the work of renowned artists like Pablo Picasso.
This isn't the only place that exhibits great art in the city. If you have longer than a day, you should consider visiting the Queensland Museum, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Performing Centre.
The Wheel of Brisbane
This is another chance at panoramic views of the city. After viewing art in the cultural precinct, you can walk along the river until you see the Wheel of Brisbane. At 60 meters tall, the wheel brings you bird's eye views of the city. It has twelve capsules, and each one is spacious enough for a group of six adults and two children. The ride gives you plenty of time to enjoy the Brisbane skyline.
