Many people love to go camping and explore the wild. However, many people are stuck in situations where they are in tents and end up returning home because they cannot cook food in the rain or other situations. With these tips, you'll be able to cook despite the downpour and enjoy a comfortable meal while looking at the view.

1) Pack dry food items in plastic bags that can be sealed tightly so they don't get wet in the rain. Try to carry light food items as to not tire you down when you are traveling, camping, or backpacking.

2) Make sure to bring a firestarter or waterproof matches. If you aren't able to get these, then you can simply use a lighter. Try to keep them protected from moisture by placing them in sealed bags/containers. Try not to carry them in your pocket as they are prone to getting wet.

3) Choose your campsite carefully and wisely. Look for a slightly elevated area to prevent water from higher places from draining into your campsite. Also look for a campsite that will give you plenty of space to start a fire as well as a large enough opening to get the smoke out from the flames.

4) If the rain is coming down in torrents, wait for a few minutes to see if it weakens a bit. Maybe you can have a better chance at cooking that way. If you do not want to waste your time, then check the weather reports beforehand to see if it will rain or not.

5) Make sure that any item you have that can't fit into the tent is covered with a tarp or any waterproof material to keep them from getting wet. You don't want to take up something expensive and have it end up being broken.

6)Choose the easiest meal to prepare so you don't need to put too much effort in the preparation. Try to bring some instant type meals that can be made quickly and without much preparation.

7) You should do any preparations inside your tent before going out in the rain to start the actual cooking. Be careful of your surroundings as you might trip and hurt yourself or end up spilling the food.

8)If possible, create a tent on the sides of your fire to make cooking easier and to keep it from getting doused by the wind and rain. This will drastically decrease the chances of your fire burning/getting put out.

Going camping is a good experience for everyone who love to explore. However, you must always remember to be prepared for any type of weather and look out for any kind of situation. Learning how to cook in the rain will help better your adventure despite the bleak surroundings.

3 Helpful Tips For Camping In The Rain For Beginners

Your trip will only be ruined if you don't properly respond to the conditions at hand. So here are 3 helpful tips for camping in the rain that you should practice:

Prepare Appropriate Clothing

When you're preparing to head outdoors and the forecast says the weather will be bright and sunny, that doesn't mean that you should only bring clothes for sunny weather. As mentioned, the weather outdoors is unpredictable so at the very least, bring a waterproof jacket, pants and boots. A rain poncho should always be included in your to-bring, too.

If you're expecting rain, bring the abovementioned pieces of clothing, bring a wide-brimmed hat (it's better to keep water off your face compared to a hood). It's also ideal to pack layers of clothing (bring some extra in case you get wet!) and don't forget an extra pair or two of socks!

Choose a good spot to set up camp

If you're about to camp in the rain, it's most ideal to pitch your tent on high ground. Keep in mind that water runs downhill and you don't want to get all soaked while sleeping by setting up camp on the bottom of a hill. The norm would be to choose a flat surface but during rainy weather, it would be better to set up your campsite on slightly sloped terrain.

It would also help to lay a waterproof tarp on your tent floor to collect rainwater that will eventually pool under the tent. Don't forget to waterproof your tent, beforehand, too!

Opt for no-cook meals

You know that cooking at a campsite isn't that easy, what more when it's pouring? While you can still enjoy hot soups and warm beverages, save yourself the hassle of cooking by preparing meals that don't require cooking like salads and sandwiches. Most of your meals should be ready to eat. Just think of it as less gear to carry (no heavy pans to bring!)

Keep these tips for camping in the rain in mind and even heavy downpour won't be able to get in the way of your camping fun!
