When I Think of Guatemala

GUATEMALA!!! I heard so many things about Guatemala. My father in law was born and raised there. He told me so many things about where he was born, where he lived, his school days, and his favorite childhood memories. All the places to eat, all the beautiful sights, and the warm beaches. My husband told me some things also. He went to Guatemala when he was about 3 or 4 years old. And the last time he went was about 4 years ago. He told me about some things when he went there. Just hearing stories about it makes me imagine what does Guatemala look like. I see Guatemala as a very colorful and relaxing place. A place to go to the beach and lie in the sun. Put your feet in the sand as it gets in between your toes. I heard that there is a beach there that has black sand. I better wear the right shoes there. I don't want to burn my feet. As the music rings in the air, people start to dance and sing. All the wonderful and delicious food to eat. The smell of the food in the air smells so good, that it makes you want to drool. The restaurants there are like 5 star hotels. I heard that McDonald's, KFC, and Pizza Hut are amazing.

The pyramids are standing nice and tall like skyscrapers. You climb to the top and feel like you are on top of the world. Birds and monkeys going from tree to tree. While they look for food for their families to eat. As you're watching the volcanoes, waiting for them to erupt as the ground shakes. The lava falls from the volcano to the ground. I better watch it from afar. I don't want to get burnt. Walking through the market for food, clothing, and things you can take home with you. Meeting new people as you stroll along. Giving them a smile and say, "Hello!" Learning how they do things, it's so exciting to watch. Like when they make blankets, purses, and other things we use today.

The sounds of the busy streets in Guatemala, as people drive up and down the roads. Hearing all the sounds in traffic must be very loud. I better be careful when I cross the street there. All the wonderful cities in Guatemala. Antigua, the place where everything is. Guatemala City, that is where my father in law was born and raised. And it is also where my husband's family lives. Quetzaltenango, where I can go see the beautiful cathedral. And Coban, where I can sit and relax in the beautiful clear water. Guatemala is the place to go and visit and go on vacation. Even though I've never been there, I can't wait to go and meet my husband's family there. I met his uncle, he is so much like my father in law. His uncle can fix anything. I heard that my husband's aunt can cook just about anything. I met almost the rest of his family on Skype. They are so nice and funny. When I try to speak Spanish to them, they always help me with pronunciation and where to put the accent in the words. I can't wait to meet them in person. When I go, I want my husband and I to go first so I know what to expect. The kids will come with us when they are old enough to understand the culture and environment. Looks like I better start working on my Spanish before I go to Guatemala. Adios!
