Frugal Disney Vacation Planning:Genius Ideas For Surviving The Heat

There is no doubt that WDW is hot. I would like to tell you that it is only hot during the peak Summer months but that is not true. Temperatures can reach over 85 a big part of the year and having a plan to beat the heat can be the difference in a great day and a miserable one.

It would be nice to schedule a trip to Walt Disney World when it wasn’t crazy hot, but sometimes our schedules and budgets just don’t work that way. Florida is sunny and warm that is part of the fun, but the heat can get unbearable. In addition to applying (and reapplying) sunscreen, you will need a plan to beat the heat. And there are plenty of great ways to cool off while enjoying a frugal Disney vacation.

Early And Late

A great way to beat the heat and the long lines is to arrive at rope drop (opening) and enjoy the park before it gets crazy hot. You can take a break in the afternoon and come back to enjoy the park later. The evening is another great time of the day to find a few rides with fewer waits and you can stay to enjoy the fireworks show.

Escape To The Pool

Disney knows how to offer cool pools. Even the Value resorts have amazing pools to let you cool down and fun pool side entertainment to keep the kids occupied. And yes there are pool side bars!

Afternoon Munchies

If you are looking to enjoy a character dining experience, an afternoon reservation is a great way to escape the heat. You can enjoy the air-conditioned, have a few minutes to rest your tired feet, and recharge for more adventure. Random afternoon reservations can be much easier to score than main meal times. Just know Disney is generous with food so do not fill up on a big lunch before a character dining experience.

Frugal Disney Vacation Ideas For Hydration

Hydration is a must but it doesn’t have to kill your budget. Free ice water is available at any quick service restaurant and you can find a few water fountains (you can bring your own water bottles) around the park. You need to drink a lot of water! You will be walking more than you are used too plus the temperatures can be hard on your body! Make sure everyone in your group is taking lots of water breaks.

Tools of The Trade

In addition to cool light clothing there are a couple of items that will make staying cool so much easier.

The Frogg Togg Chilly Pad Cooling Towel

On our first Disney vacation, I purchased one Frogg Togg Chilly Pad for the entire family. That was a mistake! The second Disney vacation, I purchased an additional Frogg Togg. Which helped but honestly the kids ended up using them most of the time and not sharing with the adults. I will make sure each person has their own Frogg Togg Chilly Pad on our next vacation. Frogg Toggs are amazing. You simply keep them damp and they keep you cool. Worried you will never use them after your Disney trip? Outside of Disney trips they are great for kids sporting events, the beach, and outdoor yard work.

Personal Misting Fans

Kids love these! And they definitely help you stay cool. These are perfect if you have a stroller and don’t have to carry them everywhere. I love these Disney themed cooling fans.

Shows to Cool Off

You came to ride cool rides and see cool characters but there are also nice air conditioned shows that can keep you entertained and give you a break from the heat.

Magic Kingdom

  • Carousel of Progress
  • Laugh Floor
  • Tiki Room

Epcot

  • Turtle Talk With Crush
  • Pixar Short Film Festival
  • Living With The Land
  • World Showcase Movies:
  • Canada
  • France
  • China

Hollywood Studios

  • Voyage Of The Little Mermaid
  • Muppets 3D
  • Disney Junior

Animal Kingdom

  • Lion King
  • Nemo

Sweet Treats

The ice cream at Disney is top notch. And you can find lot’s of locations to purchase everything from popsicles and ice cream Mickey’s to Dole Whip. During hot months, you will want to include ice cream snacks as part of your food budget plan.

Shop Till You Drop

Main Street at Magic Kingdom looks like it is full of a bunch of different gift shops, but once inside you will find that many are connected. That means you can shop for a long time finding the perfect souvenirs without ever going back outside.

You don’t have to be miserably hot at Disney. You can plan your trip to help you stay as cool and comfortable as possible while spending your time enjoying your magical vacation.
