An Experience Only Mother Nature Can Offer

If you look up the reviews for Cascata del Bosco in San Vito, Costa Rica, you will find glowing remarks from very satisfied guests - all well deserved. With some places you get the sense reviews were paid for - not so here, these are people who were so moved by their experience they had to tell others. I found myself here as a result of a recommendation from my "Facebook family." I asked my group of fellow travelers to recommend a place close to the Costa Rican/Panama border, and several came back with "Go to Cascata del Bosco". So, after a little research, we reached out to the owner George and booked our stay.

I will get the obvious out of the way, the information you can find anywhere but worth repeating. The cabins are perfect. It is nice to see the thoughtfulness that went into space here. Sometimes you walk into a place in the woods to find a hotel that could easily fit in a city setting or a building so modern it makes you wonder if the woods are real. Not so here. 16 sided cabins with rock flooring and a wooden roof with an elevated sunroof give you the opportunity to enjoy your natural setting no matter the time of day. As a fan of circular spaces and dome structures, the layout fit my vision of properly conceptualized space. The glass doors overlooking the natural habitat and outdoor porch (with very few biting insects) add dimension to your living area.

Complimentary breakfast is made to order so that vegetarians like our family don't have to worry about having limited dining options. Every morning we were greeted with fresh fruit and enjoyed a range of options including a really well put together breakfast burrito.

Conversation with George

George, one of the owners and your host at Cascata Del Bosco is the hidden gem that keeps visitors coming back and the secret that makes the Cascata experience positively memorable. George is no stranger to Costa Rica, visiting and falling in love with the country in his youth after several trips with his dad. As an adult, George began yearly excursions to Costa Rica in 1984 while honing in his experience in the hotel industry with a successful operation in California. George would later sell the hotel and move to San Vito, Costa Rica to personally oversee the concept of Cascata Del Bosco brought to reality. After four years of meticulous attention to detail under George's careful oversight, Cascata Del Bosco Hotel Restaurant Bar & Event Center opened its doors.

Knowledge can be observed

What is perhaps most fascinating about Cascata Del Bosco are the natural phenomenon that make this a haven for naturalists, herbalists, and nature lovers everywhere. On the property I discovered a cluster of bamboo (for the record, George did share with me that Bamboo is actually part of the grass family). This particular cluster is several decades old with an entrance that almost takes you into another world. For those who meditate, this is the perfect setting to hear and see the wisdom of the ages. This opportunity was an unexpected bonus for me. My shaman had just gotten me some Hape from the Brazilian rainforest and I had been looking for some time to quietly reflect. I entered the cluster with a towel (I recommend a folding chair if possible for next time, I sat and meditated without giving thought to any snakes until after I was done), laid it down, sat cross legged and allowed the Bamboo to speak to me. I won't bore you with my internal musings, suffice it to say, it was a spiritual experience that left me with a greater understanding of how working together leads to collective success.

The Sendora Trail

For lovers of nature there is plenty of wildlife to observe and plenty of trails to explore at Cascata Del Bosco. I heard about the monkeys and the birds on the property and heard their musical chatter in the mornings, unfortunately, I did not have an opportunity to see them. There are fruits and ferns on the trail I couldn't identify along with lots of wild and probably medicinal herbs - well work the trip for those who can identify these jewels in their natural habitat.

All in all, despite the challenges we faced actually getting to our final destination (See Journey to San Vito, Parts 1, 2, and 3), this counts as one of our top ten travel experiences. If you are interested in visiting Cascata Del Bosco visit their website here: http://www.cascatadelbosco.com/.

Enjoy.
