As a traveler, one of the most exciting things about visiting a new place is discovering hidden gems that most tourists don't know about. Montreal is no exception to this, as this Canadian city is filled with off-the-beaten-path spots that are sure to make your trip memorable. In this article, I'll be sharing some of my favorite lesser-known places to visit in Montreal, as well as some tips for making the most of your trip.

First things first, let's talk about luggage storage. If you're like me, you probably don't want to be lugging around heavy bags while you're out exploring a new city. Thankfully, Montreal has plenty of options for luggage storage. According to a study by Bagsaway, a company that provides luggage storage in cities around the world, Montreal ranks as the 12th most luggage storage friendly city in the world. This means that there are plenty of options for storing your bags while you're out and about, whether it's at a hotel, hostel, or one of the many luggage storage locations throughout the city.

One of my favorite off-the-beaten-path spots in Montreal is the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. While the museum is certainly not a hidden gem, as it is one of the most popular museums in Canada, it's the lesser-known Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace that I love to visit. This pavilion, which is located within the Museum of Fine Arts, is dedicated to showcasing art and artifacts that promote peace and understanding. The exhibits in this pavilion are always thought-provoking and inspiring, and it's a great place to visit if you're looking for something a little different from the more traditional art museums.

Parc des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent

Another spot that I love to visit in Montreal is the Parc des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent. This park is located in the heart of Montreal and is home to a beautiful garden and a pond where you can rent a paddle boat. It's a great place to go if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a bit and enjoy some peace and quiet. The park also has a playground, making it a great spot to visit with kids.

Jean-Talon Market

If you're a foodie, you won't want to miss the Jean-Talon Market. This market is one of the oldest and largest in Canada and is home to a wide variety of vendors selling everything from fresh produce and meat to cheese, bread, and baked goods. It's a great place to go if you want to experience the local food culture and sample some delicious Montreal specialties.

Montreal Biodome

Another spot that I highly recommend visiting is the Montreal Biodome. This unique attraction allows visitors to experience four different ecosystems found in the Americas, including the Tropical Forest, the Laurentian Forest, the St. Lawrence Marine Eco-system and the Polar World. The Biodome is home to thousands of animals and plant species that can be observed in their natural habitats, making it a great place to visit for nature lovers. You can also learn about the conservation efforts of the animals and plants.

Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal

Lastly, I recommend visiting the Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal. This beautiful church is located on the side of Mount Royal and offers stunning views of the city below. It's a great spot to visit if you want to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors, as the church is located at the top of a steep hill.

In conclusion, Montreal is a city filled with hidden gems that are waiting to be discovered. From the off-the-beaten-path Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace to the peaceful Parc des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent, there's something for everyone in Montreal. Just remember to take advantage of the city's luggage storage options, so that you can fully enjoy your time in this beautiful Canadian city.
