Travel Colorado - Things to See

TRAVEL COLORADO:

Traveling East or West, you're bound to drive through the mountains. Next time you go that way, make a special point to give yourself extra time to see one of the greatest places on the planet.

Uniquely beautiful, enchantingly mysterious, and beyond beautiful is the diverse Rocky Mountain state, Colorado. With more things to see in one lifetime, Colorado offers the diversity that a true adventurer seeks.

The best way to see what the Centennial State has to offer, is to travel the thousands of miles of scenic roadways by car. Travel with your dog easily through the mountain state and keep your kids excited about what's next.

From the ages of the old west, the the new technologies of the city, Colorado has more to offer than most states. There is no possible way to experience Colorado at once. Hardly enough time to experience it in one lifetime.

DENVER:

The "Mile High City"—Home of the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche, and more. High priority to local micro brews, festivals, and walking tours. The 16th street mall is full of shopping, food, drink, and entertainment, all accessible with Free public transportation on the mall bus. Art galleries and performances fill the area with a relaxed, but up-paced lifestyle. Catch a game, a slice of pizza, or watch on the civic center lawn performers of all types.

Visit union Station and get some train history, or the most interesting Fireman's museum with equipment and stories from the past. And of course, don't miss your visit to the Molly Brown House.

ESTES PARK:

A short trip into the mountains is the historic town of Estes Park. Gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park is also the home of the Stanley Hotel, the setting of the Haunted Stephen King's, the Shining. Great food, scenic tours, river rafting, music, local artists, and shopping line the main street of this quaint mountain town, a perfect weekend getaway.

Head toward Rocky Mountain National Park's East entrance, and meander your way back to the Alluvial Fan, a cascading hillside waterfall that is walkable easily, even in sandals and socks!

GLENWOOD SPRINGS:

Drive through the amazing Glenwood Canyon, carved through the red rocks and cliffs of the Rockies, on your way into one of Colorado's most historic towns. Travel by Amtrak from Denver through the heart of the mountains and enjoy breakfast or dinner aboard the tourist friendly train, about a five hour ride.

Walk the main street and catch up on some local fares. Fudge, teas, cofees, delis, and a variety of mountain attitude carry Glenwood into the evening fun.

Hop into the World famous Glenwood Hot springs, and soak the day away. Popular with early settlers of the area, these waters are believed to be the cure to the common ailment. Feast on a supreme dinner at any number of local restaurants, and stay in the enchanted hotels of the area, like the renowned Hotel Colorado.

Ride the scenic Gondola eight minutes to the peak of the surrounding mountains. Overlooking the entire town of Glenwood Springs, enjoy yourself on the Alpine Slide that will hurl you down the hillside at an incredible pace. Then strap yourself in and catupult yourself over thousands of feet of elevation in the human slingshot.

ROYAL GORGE:

The highest suspension bridge in the World offers views above the Arkansas River that only the brave attempt. Over 1,300 feet over the canyon floor, the Royal Gorge bridge is a sight to be experienced. Cruise the hair raising gondola across the canyon, suspended in mid-air, traverse the steep rocks in America's steepest rail train, or shoot over the treacherous canyon in the Gorge's only human slingshot.

Then enjoy a burger, pizza, or variety of food while overlooking the entire mountain range that surrounds the park, a visit that will keep you coming back.

Enjoy the Old West towns and shows in the area, and capture it all on film with the breathtaking scenery that paints the landscapes.

MT EVANS:

With views that go for miles and miles and miles, the top of Mount Evans is reached by car on the highest paved road in North America. Visit mountain goats, marmots, high country wildlife, wildflowers, and wild butterflies. Hike to the tip top and be at the top of the world. Enjoy the newly redesigned fort, and when you get to the bottom, have a meal at Echo Lake Lodge, the mountain's great home cooking.

Get close to a Mountain Goat and get some seriously great pictures from the peaks of the mountain. Give yourself at least half a day to make the short journey up to the top. Pet a butterfly, or stick your feet into the frigid waters of summit lake.

SKI RESORTS:

And of course Colorado is recognized for its skiing and variety of High Country Ski resorts that offer visitors an experience that can't be forgotten. Keystone, Breckenridge, A Basin, winter Park, Copper Mountain, Vail, Beaver Creek, Aspen, and so much more. Sharpen your blades, grab your snowboards, and hit the hills.

Many Ski Colorado coupons are available in books and local businesses. Keep an eye out for these, skiing is expensive, and a two for one ski pass can save a lot of dough...

With new technologies on the slopes, skiers and boarders can keep track of all elevation gained throughout the season and rank up against their friends. A new incentive to hit the mountain on a regular basis.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY:

And when you run out of things to do, you find new things to do. Hike a fourteener, 4x4 down an amazing mountain trail, visit any number of state and National parks, golf anywhere in the state at some of the nation's most picturesque courses, see a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater, grab a mountain bike and ride for miles, or simply grab a brew and watch as almost everyday provides a sunset to remember.
