The Happiest Place on Earth!

Disneyland Paris

Where: Disneyland Paris (Euro Disney). About an hour outside of Paris on the train.

When: October 2019—Open everyday of the year (times my vary).

Getting there: We caught the RER A from Auber, but you can also catch it from Charles de Gaulle and other main stations in Paris. Takes anywhere from 50-110 minutes. Buy return tickets at your departing station to avoid lines for tickets at Disneyland on the way home.

Cost: £40-£70 for a regular day pass to Disneyland (price my vary depending on time of year). Extra for multi-park access and Fast-pass access.

We arrived at the Parks and made our way through security to then get to the front of the Disneyland Hotel. From here, you just walk straight through the main building and onto the ticket gates where they scan your tickets and you can enter the main park. You can buy tickets and fast passes at the gates, but the lines were HUGE so we definitely recommend buying them in advance online.

Make sure you pack yourself an adequate amount of snacks and water for the day. We packed some fruit and a refillable water bottle (there are tonnes of refill stations around the park) plus some chips.

In hindsight I wish we had of packed more snacks, plus some fresh sandwiches to eat for lunch as the food in the park was pretty fatty. Most of the restaurants served things like hot dogs, chips, nuggets, burgers and a sad looking salad. A fresh sandwich would have been way nicer (and loads cheaper). Make sure you buy all your snacks in Paris and bring them in, as it’s way cheaper!

As mentioned above, there are tonnes of water stations/fountains around the park that you can drink from and fill your water bottle up with. Plus you’re saving the environment by not buying plastic bottles.

Some rides can make you wet so this was a great one for us to bring. Also the weather wasn’t great so it was good to have the raincoat as a back up.

You do a tonne of walking around the park so you definitely need to wear comfy clothes and shoes. Otherwise you might get stuck buying things from the souvenir store, which isn’t very cheap. We also recommend packing a jumper as it gets cool in the evening when the light show comes on.

We went on a super cloudy day so this wasn’t necessary for us, but on a sunny day there isn’t much shade throughout the park so it’s best to be sun safe!

Not a necessity but welcomed throughout the park. Felt that it was much easier than using a card.

Through the gates you will find yourself in ‘Main Street’ where there are majority of the souvenir stores, Ice cream stores, places to eat lunch as well as a few spots to meet a character!

At the end of Main Street is the famous Pink Disney Castle. The castle is the centre of the park, so from here you have all the classic Disney rides in Fantasyland’ like It's A Small World and Mad Hatter's Tea Cups. To the right is Discoveryland, where you will find all your space themed rides like Buzz Light Year Laser Blast and Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain.

To your left of the Castle, you will find Adventureland and Frontierland. These hold Pirates of the Caribbean and Big Thunder Mountain, all classic Disneyland rides.

While you are wandering around the park make sure you make the most of the free Wi-Fi that Disneyland offer. Once you’re on the Wi-Fi, download the Disneyland Paris App to help you navigate your way around the different rides and lands.

Here you can check out the wait times on each of the rides, and it updates live so you can get up to date times for each.

You can also see where all the characters are hanging out and what time to meet them!

Here is an example of the Disneyland Paris App Map. Where all the numbers are means that there is a ride there. Once you zoom in on the particular ride it will tell you the up-to-date ride wait times as well as a little bit about the ride you want to go to. It also shows you all the rides that aren’t currently open as well as where the food is (very important stuff).

There is also an incredible parade that goes through the streets where all your favourite characters plus extra cast members come out on floats/dance down the street to music and narration. Super fun for the little ones and the whole production is great for adults too.

Times for the parade vary depending on the time of year—best to check before you go. Usually you will see lots of staff and people lining the streets before the parade starts, in case you don’t know the timings.

The parade is a great time to jump on all your favourite rides as everyone is watching on the streets. For a great view of the parade and where it firsts starts, there is a viewing platform right next to ‘Its a Small World’ ride.

Fast passes are basically a ticket that allows you to ‘skip the line’ on loads (not all) of the attractions throughout the park. It gives you a 30 minute window where you can scan your ticket and jump the queue. Some rides can get up to a 75 minute wait, so they are definitely worth it if you want to make the most of your time.

There are 10 rides available for Fast Pass use, six at Disneyland Park and four at Walt Disney Studios.

Disneyland Park rides that allow fast passes:

  • Big Thunder Mountain
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril
  • Peter Pan's Flight
  • Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast
  • Star Tours: The Adventure Continues
  • Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain

Walt Disney Studios Rides:

  • Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Flying Carpets Over Agrabah
  • Ratatouille: The Adventure

In order to access fast passes you will have to pre purchase the fast pass option when buying your tickets online.

Once you arrive at Disneyland Paris you will have you physically go to the ride in order to get your time slot for the fast pass.

Go to the fast pass ticket machine near the ride and line up to scan your admission ticket. This then tells the machine that you have the right to a fast pass and will allow you to choose your 30 minute time slot.

As tickets are retrieved at the rides then more time slots get issued to those wanting to book in a spot using their fast pass. They go up in five minute increments, so you can only book a certain time slot when the machine shows that time. For example: The fast pass machine will show above it “2.30-3.00” and then it will move up to “2.35-3.05”. You can’t choose a time in the future so you do have to be careful that you don’t book your time slot when you have something else on.

Return to the ride within your 30 minute time slot and walk through the specific fast pass entrance and scan your ticket. Voila! Enjoy the ride.

Fast passes are worth it if you’re planning on going on EVERY RIDE, and don’t fancy yourself waiting in line for an hour at most of the major attractions. For a few extra euros you can save so much time and make the most of your day.

Disney will always be the most amazing experience—how could it not. They don’t call it the happiest place on earth for nothing! If you go prepared and plan in advance then you will be able to make the most of your day there.

Our favourite rides are, Space Mountain, Star Wars: The Adventure Continues, Thunder mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. Some things are worth lining up for while you are there and it definitely pays to get the fast pass so you can avoid lining up for an hour for one ride.

We hope you have the most magical (see what we did there) day ever and enjoy every moment of Disneyland Paris!
