Downtown bound

Once you exit the freeway, you will drive toward Downtown Columbus.

The yellow is where you will be driving into town from the left to the right.

If you are arriving at night, you will enjoy a unique view of the bridge, lit up and glowing. If you arrive during the day, get ready to take it in, in all its glory. (Want to see the bridge? Click the You tube link above)

Now look to your left. This is city hall.

You will simaltaneously pass this memorial. It is mesmorizing from the inside. If you walk through the pilars, you can read letters home from soldiers.

This glass encased space is called "The Commons". If you have little ones that need to burn off some energy, this is the perfect place! It's on the other side of the court house.

If you need a quick bite to eat and want to try a local place with delicious (meat and vegetarian) hot dogs and hamburgers, take a left on Washington street. You are in for a treat!

Address: 217 C Washington St, Columbus, IN 47201

Check out the menu and their hours by following the link below.

The yellow line is you. The pink squares indicate where you can park. In red is the destination. You won't walk far either way you go. Parking is free.

The awesome sauce about this place is that they employ adults with special needs. Randy the owner has a daughter with developmental disabilities, and he struggled to help her find a job. That struggle inspired him to open Special Dogs and More. It's truly heart warming. Check out this News clip:

Robin (Randy's wife and co-owner wearing the red uniform sits with her customers and catches up. My son (who has Autism) is sitting in her lap. This is a great place to take kids who have trouble sitting still. The service is phenominal and the food is delicious!!!

If you are looking for hotels, you have options! Check out this list.

If you want a truly unique experience, check out Hotel Indigo.

Hotel Indigo is perfect for the person who wants to see beautiful modern artwork, brightly colored walls, and unusual furnishings. It's a step out of the norm for sure. It is also known for being pet friendly.

if you would prefer something a little more classic, then you might like The Inn at Irwin Gardens. While Modern art and archetecture are being born all around us, Columbus still holds tight to it's heritage. You will get a real feel of Columbus inside of its walls.

"The Inn has changed very little in the last 100 years, including retaining all of its light fixtures, furniture, decorations, and most of the bathroom fixtures." (https://www.irwingardens.com/history)

While you may chose to eat breakfast at your hotel, you might also like to try one of our coffee shops.

310 4th Street, Columbus, IN 47201, close to the Indigo Hotel and Irwin Gardens Inn. Only a ten minute drive from all others.

It's quite colorful inside. It releases stress with it's pops of teal and orange. A great place for families, friends, couples, and business meetings

There's even a kid's area!

A warm cinnamon scone and chai tea latte. Soooooo good!!! Worth getting up and out on a Saturday morning.

This mom needs caffeine, stat!

My deaf seven year old is signing "hear" as I bob my head to the gentle music playing in the background.

If you need another suggestion for coffee, I highly recommend Gramz.

Lots of coffee to choose from!

Try the Rose tea with a dollop of Cool Whip

The lemon almond cake is delicious

So cozy!

Time to go exploring!

This is the Arch. The architect intentionally gave a view of the first Christian church that is across the street. The structure that appears to be nothing more than a giant greed oddity, actually holds meaning. It was created to reflect a man’s pelvis and a woman’s pelvis.

The Cleo library sites behind it as well as the church that it frames. Both have great stories, but I'll let you find those out for yourself.

Time to check out this recently painted mural. It is named the bicentennial Miral

There's the artist herself!

Everyone from her class helped lay the tape, And paint this mural in sections

Hello friendship Ally

You'll find this tucked away near "Friendship Ally". Students from Ivy Tech in Columbus collaborated to come up with designs for this wall. Weeks were spent studying the history of the town's famous architecture so that this mural would embody it. Just a 15 minute walk from the mural is a great park.

This is Millrace. Climb up the tower. The view is amazing!

This is a scene from the movie Columbus

This is a beautiful statue that takes my breath away every time I drive by it

Ready for lunch?

Go back into downtown by foot and find Zaharikos.

They have great food and the best ice cream! This is Columbus of the past and you'll definitely get that vibe when you walk through the doors.

fter you eat, check out some of the art just outside.

You are here where it says The Commons

First Christian Church is worth experiencing from the inside. Take a look around.

If the weather is nice you might want to swim. Donner Park is the perfect place.

In the mood for a movie? Forget the big box offices. Check out our local theater.

This is the Yes Cinema

Ready for dinner? Take a walk back through Friendship ally. You'll see it's all lit up now!

Like Indian food? You'll love this place!

Time to play? Take a two minute walk to the Commons. It's free and temperature controlled. Great for the really muggy or freezing days!

On your way, be sure to check out this installation. It's part of our yearly exhibition.

If you’re in the mood for frozen yogurt, Yo mamas is our favorite. Not only do we love the name but the inside is really neat.

There is so much to do in Columbus that you really need more than a few days. I hope that your interest has been peaked. We look forward to passing you by in our little town!

Journeying through the city of Columbus, has opened my eyes to the beauty of the city that I have grown a custom to. It’s like putting on fresh glasses and seeing it through somebody else’s perspective. It’s been along time since I revisited many of the sites that I saw. I even found multiple restaurants, facilities, areas in nature that I had never seen before. Journeying through the city of Columbus, has opened my eyes to the beauty of the city that I have grown a custom to. It’s like putting on fresh glasses and seeing it through somebody else’s perspective. It’s been along time since I revisited many of the sites that I saw. I even found multiple restaurants, facilities, areas in nature that I had never seen before. my life gets so hectic and I really forget to stop and look around, let alone appreciate what’s right in front of me.

my life revolves around my little boy and his special needs. My creative needs tend to get pushed aside most of the time. I just happen to come upon vocal in Facebook and was intrigued. I have always love to tell stories and take pictures. This is a really great opportunity to do both and to share the beauty of this city with others, who may not know it exists.

In the process of trying to get the most out of my pictures I discovered a couple of apps that were really fun. I only used it for two days because I did not want to pay for it but I was able to have a lot of fun in that short time. It showed me that being creative doesn’t have to take a lot of time and work. You just have to set aside a little bit and be willing to discover new things.
