Cheyenne is the capital city of the US state of Wyoming.

Wyoming State Capital right in the heart of the city is the state's seat of government. It was built between 1886 and 1890 and has a golden dome over forty meters high. You can admire the Renaissance Revival-style building from the outside and take a tour of the stately rooms and legislative chambers inside. There are decorative furnishings, colorful murals, and marble. Its most remarkable features are the stained-glass dome and rotunda. It is a National Historic Landmark surrounded by landscaped lawns.

Visit the historic Governor's Mansion right in the city center. It was once the home to state governors and their families and is now preserved as part of a historic house museum. It was built in the Colonial Revival Style back in 1904. The interior has period furniture and pieces that decorate the stately rooms and suites. There is also a beautiful library and you can see the basement fallout shelter built during the Cold War. The mansion is now a National Historic Landmark.

The Wyoming State Museum collects, preserves, and exhibits artifacts related to the human and natural history of Wyoming. Among the permanent exhibits are the flora and fauna of the state and you can get a look into the effects of human presence on the state's wildlife, and the history of Wyoming's mining industry. There is a hands-on room for children where they can handle historic pieces and dress up in costumes.

The Nelson Museum of the West offers exhibits of Western culture throughout human history, including cowboys, Native Americans, and the US Military. There is a 4,000-book library. Artwork includes art by the Pueblo and Plains Indians and fine art by the most famous artists in the West. A Mexican exhibit has decorative sombreros, clothing, and silver-mounted spurs and saddles.

Cheyenne Depot Plaza stands right in front of the museum of the same name. There are many statues and monuments with lovely historic buildings surrounding the plaza. Here many of the city's main community events and festivals take place as well as concerts. Informative plaques can be found all around the highlight the history of the downtown district. Enjoy the art installations like brightly colored cowboy boot sculptures.

The Cheyenne Depo Museum was once the depot for the Union Pacific Railroad it displays interesting artifacts and the history of the railways and how they opened the American West to settlement and development. The depo was built of sandstone in the 1880s in Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. It reopened as a museum in 1993. At this National Historic Landmark, you can learn about the past of the Transcontinental Railroad and see the massive model train on display.

Boots of Cheyenne you'll see while walking about the city. There are over 25 boot sculptures at strategic points in the city. Each of them highlights a particular aspect of the history of Cheyenne or Wyoming. This started out as a local art initiative in 2004 to raise money for the Cheyenne Depot Museum and turned into one of the city's top tourist attractions.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is in the Lions Park with lots of colorful flowers, plants, trees, and shrubs. It was established in 1977 and has ponds, and landscaped rose, herb, and perennial gardens. There is an arboretum and a children's village as well as a Garden Labyrinth. The highlight here is the conservatory, home to tropical plants, a koi pond, and vegetable plots.

Curt Gowdy State Park has amazing landscapes and nature. It is just half an hour's drive west of the city. There are rolling hills and rocky outcrops, meadows full of flowers, and verdant woods with three large reservoirs. The park is located among the foothills of the Laramie Mountains and there is plenty of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. You can also enjoy fishing, boating, and water skiing. For overnight stays, there are campsites and cabins,

Terry Bison Ranch has a lovely landscape of rolling hills and lush grasslands. There are over 2,300 bison grazing on the land. Visitors can take a train ride through a tour right into the middle of the bison herd. There is also horseback riding.

The ranch features The Senator's Restaurant and Brass Buffalo Saloon a full-service Old West restaurant and saloon.

The Vedauwoo Recreation Area is an amazing place with ancient rock formations. Visitors can enjoy sightseeing, hiking, mountain biking, and camping. The Medicine Bow National Forest is among the best places for rock climbing and bouldering in Wisconsin.

Cheyenne Frontier Days is the world's largest outdoor rodeo and Western celebration. It all began in 1897 and today features ten days of the best PRCA rodeo action that includes bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and team roping. Visitors enjoy concerts, chuckwagon cookoffs, parades, carnival rides, and shows.
