North Macedonia is a small country tucked in the heart of the Balkans, and it is absolutely bursting with history, culture, and natural beauty. It is a landlocked country in Southeast Europe, bordered by Kosovo and Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west.

Bitola locally is known as "the city of consuls." At one time it was home to foreign diplomatic missions during the Ottoman era.

Take a walk along the main pedestrian boulevard, Sirok Sokak with boutiques and cafes.

Sokak,

The ancient ruins of Heraclea Lyncestis are situated just outside of town. Roman mosaics stretch across the ground in intricate patterns. It was founded by Philip II of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great.

Perhaps the most striking town in the entire country, Kratovo was built inside the crater of an extinct volcano. The hamlet is surrounded by a natural bowl formed by the crater walls, and medieval stone towers stand from the rim like sentinels keeping watch through the ages. It was once a significant mining hub, and a remnant of that metalworking history can be found in regional artisan customs.

Constructed during the Byzantine or Ottoman era, six ancient stone bridges span the deep ravine that runs through the town center. The locals use these bridges on a daily basis.

At 1,350 meters above sea level, Krusevo is the highest town in North Macedonia. The vibrant ancient houses packed along the slopes appear to have been painted by hand. There are 19th-century palaces and stone churches nestled around meandering alleyways.

It became the focal point of the IIinden Uprising in 1903, a significant uprising against Ottoman control that lasted only ten days but permanently altered the national identity. That rebellion is commemorated by the futuristic domed Makedonium Memorial, constructed in 1974.

Both the Old Town and Lake Ohrid and its surroundings are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The town of Ohrid sits on the edge of the lake. Visitors enjoy wandering through cobblestone streets lined with Byzantine churches.

You can enjoy a lakeside promenade and relax at one of the many lakeside restaurants.

Visit Samuel's Fortress hovering over the town with amazing views all around. The fortress is built from local limestone, featuring imposing walls and towers that follow the hill's contours.

lake.

The surrounding fields have provided Macedonian tobacco for years, making the town of Prilep well-known throughout the country for its tobacco production.

The ruins of the 14th-century fortification connected to the fabled King Marko, known as Marko's Towers, dominated the skyline, making it outstanding as a historic landmark. The towers are perched on granite hills, surrounded by steep slopes covered with minute granite stones.

One of the most evocative places of worship in the area is the adjacent Treskavec Monastery perched on a rocky peak overlooking the surrounding Pelagonia Valley. It offers accommodations for overnight guests. It  is a historic site perched on Mount Zlatovrv, offering stunning views of the Pelagonia Valley.
