It’s no fun being locked up and I’m sure that’s how everyone feels during this quarantine. Everyone wants to be safe and stop the spread of COVID-19 so we can return back to our regular day to day lives and enjoy life. Even though this pandemic is going on people are still trying to find a way to get out of the house. A great way to get out of the house is to go explore nature. Whether it’s going out to the woods, hiking ,or enjoying the summer by visiting a lake, beach, sea, etc.. I live in Las Vegas,NV and during the summer it’s easily 100 degrees or more during most of the day. Not a lot of people have been up to Mount Charleston before and a little more up they have Lee canyon. During the winter time it snows a decent amount and you can actually go snowboarding or skiing in Vegas!! Crazy winter sports in a desert who would have thought. Anyways Mount Charleston has many trails you can go up and hike. MaryJane Falls and Big Falls are both kinda close to each other and are definitely a must see. The trail to Big falls is amazing you tread through the woods for maybe 20 mins then the fun part begins; you'll find yourself walking up a river bend now it’s not a lot of water but for living in a desert it’s really cool to see. The weather up in the mountains is like 20-30 degrees cooler than in the city so it’s a relaxing cool place to go visit especially if you enjoy nature. Hiking isn’t for everyone and this specific trail I’d say is beginner-intermediate level. I notice lots of people hike up the paths with their dogs and they don’t have any problems getting up, but I personally like to go out and explore more and make my own path so if you like more of a challenge there’s definitely some cool spots to drift off to. Unfortunately some of the parking is closed off so you’ll have to walk up the road to reach the trail but it’s definitely worth the walk. There’s nothing better than finally reaching the peak or your destination cause you feel accomplished and just get to relax, sit back, and enjoy the beauty and sound of nature. Since hiking isn’t for everyone at the top of Mount Charleston (you can reach it by car the road is paved) they have a lodge where they serve food which is a great place to take the family for lunch or dinner. Also there is about five campgrounds you can go to with your family all of them are pay per night, but there’s nothing like seeing the beauty of the woods in the night sitting around a fire roasting marshmallows and telling scary stories with your family and friends. If you don’t want to stay the night they also have day use picnic areas you can just go up to the day for bbq and chill with your friends and family. Some of the picnic areas are extraordinary one in particular has a small little stream flowing through it and it’s nice for younger kids to explore around play with sticks and pinecones. There is also wildlife up there so you do need to be careful. I’ve seen deer, wild horses, and chipmunks really wish I could have gotten a picture of them it’s so hard to capture them when they’re moving. I feel in these tough times people just need to see how beautiful the world can be outside and maybe just try something they’ve never done before. So I say go out and start your own adventure.
