Behind the Sky

See past the stoplights of your mind.

One day a driver is headed home from a usual work day. Most drivers listen to music as they travel from point A to point B, but this driver often likes the sound of her own thoughts. Surrounded by the symphony of life, busy streets, high wind, and rubber tires against the concrete road, the driver also hears thoughts passing through her mind and then very subtly vanishing into the abyss until something finally stuck. It was an epiphany. This epiphany appeared as the driver stopped at a red light. Past the interior of the car, past the windshield, past the stop lights, the driver saw clouds, light, and space. What a beautiful sight...what a wonderful thought. To ponder on something greater than the existence of one life and focus on the beauty of the world is priceless. The driver became filled with excitement as she thought freely into the atmosphere. She was grateful for the life she had now, though it grew monotonous. But, experiencing the beauty past the interior of her life, past the windshield of her anatomy, and past the stoplights of her mind, forced her to appreciate the ability to think freely. To have thoughts about what lies behind the usual sky, as unusual as the sky can seem allowed her to express a kind of gratitude that was genuine.

What lies behind the sky anyway? As the driver's thoughts continued, she thought about how long the red light was that she sat at. The light had to be red for almost a good 5 minutes. Perhaps time stopped because time waits for no one but, maybe time waits for someone that can appreciate it. What if time was allowing itself to pause in recognition that someone finally understood it. There is a lesson to be learned in every aspect of our lives. Waiting idly at a stoplight happens to be one of those instances in which life is teaching us patience. Time has patience down to a science, literally. If it did not, how could there be space? That is what lies behind the sky, SPACE. Miles and miles across the sky, years and years ago, our world is made of burning balls of fuel (time). Some refer to them as ghosts. Otherwise, a more commonly used name is star. A star models time, is the exact representation of time. Time teaches patience.

The driver's epiphany seemed to multiply into smaller ones, each feeding off the other drawing together such a conclusion. This happened all because the driver was willing to listen to her thoughts and see beyond her comfort zone. It was truly amazing how time just sort of froze. The driver's signal light ticked once then completely stopped ticking. Incredible! The driver was sure that she discovered time travel or close to it. For a moment, her spirit left her body and the driver's seat and floated slowly up past the clouds into space. The sun was bright and hot but, none of that mattered as if her senses completely ignored all forms of reality. She thought, "I have to be dreaming". Growing a bit frightened she calmed down just enough to listen to her thoughts again. Not the thoughts that were constantly feeding her fears but the ones that made her appreciate the beauty of time and its essence. Yet again, it was completely silent. She could barely hear herself breathe.

TICK, TICK, TICK. BEEEEEPPPPP! "What are'ya doing up there moron! GOOO!!" Instantly, before taking another breath, she felt her spirit collapse back into her body, falling back down to Earth to join the busy streets, high winds, the sound of rubber tires against a concrete road, and the sound of someone's screeching brakes speeding past her as the light flashed green.
