An evening of #PORTicipation

Live Music. Beach Vibes. Fun Times.

What a great event, we enjoyed this evening. πŸ’–πŸ˜Š. The city of Port Colborne hosted a bonfire beach party event at Nickel Beach. This was the second of three events happening this summer. The next one is Friday Sept. 20th 2019 at 8:30 PM-10:30 PM. I highly recommend attending and you will learn why below πŸ‘‡πŸ˜˜.

I have been loving spur of the moment outings like this with the kids. Clayton had a friend spending the night, so we packed up the car with a soccer ball, frisbee (which someone stole πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ) the furbaby (which we didn't realize wasn't invited until we arrived but the guy at the gate said since she was cute and friendly he would let her pass lol), and bug spray, which, unfortunately, didn't cut it for us. The little white flying bugs that kept covering us got the better of our nerves and we left early lol. No biggie though, we still had a blast.

No bathing suits unfortunately as the water was recommended to stay out of due to high bacteria readings. (Always check local city websites for this info before going into any water, better to be safe then sorry!)

Nala had a bunch of fun rolling around in the sand and trying to bury me with it haha. Let's just say I needed a shower as soon as I got home haha.

The boys enjoyed making s'mores over the fire, which were surprisingly free and an added bonus πŸ™Œ. They also got in some soccer time too and running around barefoot enjoying the sand between their toes.

Friends. Smores. Teamwork.

As for me, I came prepared with a book to sit quietly beside the fire and read on the beach.... but who are we kidding?! This is me we are talking about, the person that rarely has things go as planned lol. Let's just say if I wasn't swatting bugs away and brushing sand out of all the wrong places, I was trying not to eat the sand Nala kept trying to bury me and my water bottle with. I did manage to chill and listen to the live music for a bit, which was actually very good!πŸ’–πŸ˜Š I highly recommend bringing a blanket to lie on or chair to sit in if the sand getting up your shorts bothers you lol. There was also picnic tables scattered throughout the beach as well, and if you arrive early enough, you could always accommodate one of them πŸ˜‰.

Another bonus was that "8trees Incorporated" had a booth set up on the beach educating people and handing out information pamphlets about the endangered species of toad that lives on Nickel Beach. The toads living on Nickel Beach are called Fowler Toads. 8trees had their mascot Joad the Toad with them, and also had laminated toad identification sheets and gave us one to take home. 😊. We will take this out with us when exploring for sure; and side note, we totally saw a couple toads on the way back to the car!

As I stated above, if you will be in Port Colborne on Friday Sept 20th, you should add the next Beach Bonfire Party to your calendar! Hopefully the beach will still be nice and clean in time for this one as it was pretty much spotless tonight from seaweed and garbage. This is always a huge plus because then I felt safe running around barefoot, not to mention knowing the garbage is cleaned up, which is great for the environment! No one likes litter especially the living creatures that live in and around the beach. With that said, take it as a reminder to make sure if you create any garbage, that you are always disposing of it properly. 😘

Loving the idea of the upcoming beach party? Well, if you plan ahead unlike some people (ahemβ€”me lol) here is some tips on what to bring: lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray, flashlights, marshmallow roasting sticks, toys for the kids to play with if that's your thing, and maybe an empty garbage bag to pick up any litter you see (everyone loves a community helper!) πŸ˜‰. Here is also a list of what NOT to bring: alcohol, cigarettes, vapes, cannabis, and pets (whoops lol).

Overall, we had an amazing time and I highly recommend it! I always enjoy seeing so many people out enjoying such a fun community event!

Have Fun! Be Safe! Make Memories!
