ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO

There are so many reasons why my hometown, Albuquerque, New Mexico, is so special to me. I find Albuquerque contributing so much towards my heart and soul. The landscape is beautiful! It is recognized as one of the most culturally diverse cities in the country. It is abundant in art and beauty. It also happens to be filled with some of the best food in the entire world! You’ll never go hungry!

Can we talk about how beautiful my city is? Albuquerque is diverse in its beauty and its weather conditions. We get all four seasons! However, we are fortunate enough to have the sun for most of the year as we are located on the sun belt! When we do get rain or snow, it’s grand and plentiful but it usually doesn’t stick or linger for more than a couple hours.

The landscape is outstanding! We have the most beautiful sunsets you could ever lay eyes on. Every year I love to traverse the Sandia Mountains. It has an amazing crest, which is at the highest point of the mountain standing at nearly 12,00 feet tall. The Crest offers an incredible panoramic view of the entire city. You can take one of the longest trams in the world to get to the top! I also enjoy the drive as well or even a strenuous and rewarding hike up the La luz trailhead will get you there!

Albuquerque is one of the largest cities geographically. It has several different hot spots and neighborhoods. You can go Downtown, to Nob Hill, Old Town, Uptown, to the Westside, or any of the several other unique locations. Albuquerque has a diverse identity and a special personality in each of its neighborhoods.

Parks make up over a quarter of Albuquerque’s landscape. One park that I enjoy visiting is the Petroglyph National Monument Park. The park runs about 17 miles long. The petroglyphs were created around 1300 and 1600 AD. The images were mostly carved by Native American and Spanish settlers.

Albuquerque is recognized as one of the most culturally diverse cities in the country. Albuquerque is a melting pot. It’s a place where different rhythms and cultures are mixed. Albuquerque is multicultural which includes not only the Native Americans and Hispanics, what we’re known for, but African American, Asian, Middle Eastern and many more diverse communities. Countless customs and traditions have been passed down over generations which are a vibrant part of our daily life.

Just like our people, Albuquerque is filled with art and beauty. One major thing that comes to mind when I think of art in Albuquerque is the Albuquerque Artwalk. The Albuquerque Artwalk is an independent art organization which promotes our creative economy. The Albuquerque Artwalk supports local artists, small businesses, and local establishments.

One way that Albuquerque expresses it’s art is with fractals. Albuquerque is the emerging fractal capital of the world. Albuquerque expresses fractal art on our downtown buildings and with the fractals that fly in the air. The Fractal Foundation provides fractal shows, fractal education, and fractal hot air balloons.

Speaking of hot air balloons; The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is an event that lasts nine days in October and attracts almost a million guests. The fiesta brings around six hundred unique and animated balloons, and even more pilots who travel from across the world to fly. People from almost everywhere come down for the electrifying balloon filled skies. This is by far one of my favorite weeks in Albuquerque.

Hungry? I believe that food is where the heart is. Just like the landscape and art, our food is full of that same culture.

Albuquerque dining is best known for its rare local dishes which blends Native American and Spanish flavors and is abundant in our signature ingredients: Red and Green Chili. Red and Green chili are a staple of New Mexican food. It was first grown by Pueblo and Hispanic communities throughout several different parts of New Mexico.
